Job Description

Retrieval, review, and abstraction of medical record data.  Data entry into a HEDIS software system.  Collaborate with clinical and non-clinical staff in provider offices for medical record retrieval.  Candidate must pass a medical record abstraction test prior to starting actual medical record reviews.  Onsite training provided to all hired candidates.

Candidate will work with the HEDIS team to collect member records and conduct reviews of these records by contacting providers and placing the results collected into a specific data base. Candidate will be responsible for scheduling appointments with providers' offices to arrange an onsite visit to conduct medical record extraction. Candidate will also be responsible for possible abstracting pertinent information from a medical record and entering it into a WellPoint medical record tool.

Essential Functions:

  • Candidates will schedule appoints with providers' offices within a designated territory and are responsible for medical record extraction.
  • The candidate will be required to send documents to WellPoint via a correspondence delivery system to be determined by the department (i.e. postal mail, fax, scan, etc).
Qualifications
  • Clear and active RN license in the state of VA 
  • Licensed professional graduate of an accredited school of nursing 
  • Strong research and analytical skills 
  • Strong medical record review experience 
  • Experience with EMR (electronic medical records) software
  • Effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
