Job Summary:

Performs clinical duties expected of a medical laboratory scientist in a high-complexity clinical laboratory and teaches medical laboratory science students in accordance with regulatory and accreditation standards and guidelines. Aligns practice with our core values to maximize student and patient experiences. Time is split between clinical and educational roles.

Job Duties:

  • Performs all duties and meets all job performance and competency expectations of the medical laboratory scientist position.
  • Coordinates with medical laboratory science education team to develop and deliver MLS educational experiences and materials in assigned content areas.
  • Maintains student and patient confidentiality in recording and reporting results.
  • Anticipates, troubleshoots, resolves, and reports problems as appropriate.
  • Engages in continuous quality improvement practices throughout areas of responsibility including continuing education.
  • Participates in interdepartmental and interprofessional teamwork to optimize workflows and meet organizational goals
  • Models, encourages, and engages in professional and service-oriented behaviors including scholarly activity.
  • May serve on education program and departmental committees.
  • May participate in recruitment events and other professional activities to facilitate the development and advancement of the clinical laboratory workforce.

Adjunct Teaching opportunity!!

Adjunct Candidates: In lieu of MLS (ASCP) certification and bachelor's degree in medical technology or medical laboratory science, an associate's degree in medical technology or medical laboratory science and ASCP MLT and specialty certification plus 8 years of laboratory experience OR MLT (ASCP) certification plus 5 years laboratory experience plus 3 years teaching experience will be considered as equivalency to MLS (ASCP).

Education Qualification and Details

Medical Laboratory Scientist:

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of anASCP/NAACLS-accreditedMedical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science program OR;
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP categorical certification OR;
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory

or

Medical Laboratory Technician:

  • Associate degree in a laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)
