What does a medical laboratory intern do?

A Medical Laboratory Intern assists laboratory professionals in performing diagnostic tests and experiments on patient samples, such as blood, urine, and tissue. They help with preparing samples, operating laboratory equipment, and recording results under supervision. Interns also learn about laboratory safety procedures, quality control, and data management. This hands-on experience helps them develop practical skills and knowledge needed for a career in medical laboratory science.

As a Medical Laboratory Intern, you will regularly collaborate with laboratory technologists, pathologists, and sometimes nurses or physicians to ensure accurate and timely diagnostic results. Interns often assist with specimen processing, perform basic tests under supervision, and communicate findings or concerns to senior staff. This teamwork is crucial for maintaining high laboratory standards and supporting patient care. Effective communication and a willingness to learn from experienced colleagues are essential for a successful internship experience.
