A medical lab technician collects and tests various bodily fluids and other samples from patients. Specimens include blood, urine, and tissue. Medical lab technicians work in hospitals, medical labs, doctor’s offices, and other medical facilities, usually under the supervision of a doctor, lab technologist, or lab manager. Equipment used may be basic, such as a protein test strip, or complex, including cell counters and automated analyzers. Responsibilities and duties include collecting and evaluating samples, conducting lab tests, and processing all paperwork associated with those samples. You must comply with all safety and privacy protocols.
