Medical Lab Scientist (MLS/MT) – Weekend Days (3x12s | 36 Hours Paid as Full-Time)

Department: Laboratory
Status: Full-Time | 0.9 FTE (36 hours/week, full-time equivalent)
Schedule:

  • Saturday, Sunday & Monday: 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
  • Reports To: Supervisor – Lab General
  • Location: Pagosa Springs Medical Center – Pagosa Springs, Colorado

Position Summary

Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking a skilled and independent Medical Lab Scientist (MLS/MT) to join our Laboratory team on a weekend-focused day shift schedule.

This role performs a wide range of technical and analytical laboratory procedures across multiple disciplines including hematology, chemistry, microbiology, blood bank, serology, urinalysis, coagulation, and phlebotomy. Responsibilities include performing routine and specialized testing, maintaining instrumentation, ensuring quality control, and delivering accurate and timely results to support patient care.

This position is ideal for experienced lab professionals who enjoy working independently while maintaining a broad generalist skillset.


Schedule Highlights
  • Full-time equivalent (36 hours/week)
  • 3 x 12-hour shifts
  • Consistent schedule: Saturday–Monday
  • 4 days off each week

Key ResponsibilitiesLaboratory Testing & Analysis
  • Perform routine and specialized laboratory testing across multiple disciplines
  • Analyze, evaluate, and verify test results for accuracy and reliability
  • Identify abnormal and critical values and follow proper reporting protocols
Phlebotomy & Specimen Handling
  • Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection as needed
  • Ensure proper specimen labeling, handling, and transport
  • Evaluate specimen integrity and follow rejection protocols
Quality Control & Compliance
  • Perform and document quality control procedures
  • Participate in proficiency testing and quality improvement activities
  • Maintain compliance with laboratory policies and regulatory standards
Instrumentation & Troubleshooting
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment
  • Identify and resolve equipment or testing issues
  • Maintain operational readiness of laboratory systems
Documentation & LIS
  • Accurately document results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
  • Enter, verify, and correct test results as needed
  • Maintain complete and accurate records
Team Collaboration
  • Communicate effectively with providers and clinical staff
  • Assist with training and support of laboratory personnel
  • Support overall laboratory workflow and operations
Education
  • Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree in Laboratory Sciences with completion of an approved internship program
Experience
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience as a Medical Lab Scientist / Technologist preferred
  • Generalist experience in a hospital setting strongly preferred
Licensure & Certifications
  • MLT (ASCP/AMT) or MT/MLS certification required (or ability to obtain within 2 years)
  • Current AHA BLS certification required

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base Compensation Range: $33.25 - $51.40 hourly, based on years of relevant experience. "Relevant experience" means relevant to the employee's responsibilities set forth in the job description as determined by the HR Manager, CAO, applicable department manager/director and applicable senior leader. 
  • Starting Work Bonus: This position is eligible for a starting work bonus of up to $5,000. Eligibility, amount, and payment terms are subject to Pagosa Springs Medical Center’s compensation policies and may vary based on position, experience, and employment status. Bonus payments, if applicable, are typically issued after the employee has met required employment and service criteria. 
  • Moving Expense Reimbursement: This position is eligible for a moving expense reimbursement of up to $3,000. Reimbursement is subject to Pagosa Springs Medical Center’s relocation policy and requires prior approval. Eligible expenses and reimbursement amounts may vary based on position and individual circumstances. Reimbursement is processed in accordance with established policy and applicable tax regulations. 
  • Benefits: Benefits include generous paid time off, separate sick leave, health, dental, vision, life and AD&D insurance, long-term disability and option for short-term disability, and retirement plan with employer contribution.
