Job Summary: The Program Manager, Information Technology – Epic, provides technical and operational leadership for the implementation of enterprise Epic systems. The individual will be part of a consortium team with colleagues at affiliated institutions, consisting of clinicians, project managers, analysts, and developers with module-specific domain expertise. This position works closely with clinical and business leadership and leads a multidisciplinary team in the design, implementation, workflow optimization, change management, and issue resolution related to the enterprise system. This position requires broad knowledge of clinical systems such as the Epic platform, along with clinical workflow and business processes. As a Program Manager for the Enterprise Epic initiative, this individual will collaborate with appropriate technical and operational leaders from affiliated institutions.

  Responsibilities: 

  • Maintains the organization's effectiveness and efficiency by defining, delivering, and supporting strategic plans for implementing new and innovative information technologies.
  • Provides technical leadership to ensure the best development practices, user experience standards and security implementation strategies are followed.
  • Advises and recommends state-of-the-art enterprise architecture strategies, processes and methodologies.
  • Apply strategic thinking to IT service management. The ultimate goal is to design, develop, and implement service management as both an organizational capability and a strategic asset.
  • Provides overall direction and guidance, coordinates schedules and related project activities to ensure the work and documentation meet appropriate department/service line standards.
  • Collaborates with users and other IT departments to develop strategy and goals for the team and the department.
  • Participates in key user committees to identify business requirements and recommend solutions which conform to organizational goals and regulatory guidelines. Develop innovative approaches for dealing with customer needs that are also aligned with overall information services goals and objectives.
  • Defines and implements programming goals such as reuse and adaptability.
  • Leads the team to gather and analyze business requirements, manage design, implementation and testing of applications.
  • Presents product specifications and delivery schedule clearly and concisely to individuals at all levels of an organization, including to executive management.
  • Strategically collaborates with cross-functional teams, including development and vendor resources, to solve problems effectively and quickly to deliver product.
  • Manages competing priorities to keep the team on track to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Performs all duties inherent to a managerial role.
  • Participates in hiring, training, evaluation and termination of assigned staff according to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Evaluates employee performance.
  • Responsible for timekeeping of direct reports.
  • Train and/or supervise training of users and other staff in current and new aspects of system functionality. Participate in go-lives and support.
  • Participate in On-Call support.  Accountable and responsible for supporting business critical applications and systems that operate 24/7/365.
  • Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Experience:

  • 5–7 years of experience as a Technical Manager or Technical Project Management, required

Education:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field required
  • Master’s degree, preferred

Licenses / Certifications:  

  • EPIC Module Certification in job-related module(s) is required to be obtained within 6 months and renewed quadrennial
  • PMP certification, preferred
  • ITIL certirfication, preferred
  • Microsoft or other technology industry certifications, preferred

Other:

  • Ability to work in surroundings with a degree of dust, noise, odors, etc. without undue discomfort.
  • Ability to hear, talk, walk, stand, bend and stretch.
  • Ability to read, write and interpret documents.

  • Must be trained in and knowledgeable of all hospital policies and procedures pertaining to hazardous waste and hazardous materials and maintain qualifications applicable to assigned work.

Special Requirements:

  • Compliant with Change Control policies, familiar with ticketing systems, ability to manage communications associated with project roll-outs.

  • Knowledge of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), Web services, principles, and patterns at an enterprise-level as it relates to complex web and mobile applications.
  • Comfortable leading a team using Agile SCRUM software development methodology.
  • Ability to conceptualize, plan, and implement projects as well as interact effectively with applications in complex problem situations.
  • Experience with selecting and managing external software vendors.
