Summary
The Associate Director, Medical Affairs - Publications - Contractor will be an essential leader and responsible for driving the publications strategy and activities across the Arcus portfolio. The individual will lead the publications process and play an integral role in driving strategy development, planning, and execution of high-quality scientific publications across Arcus' portfolio. This role will work closely with other functions and departments, including Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Research, Biostatistics, Corporate Communications, and external collaborators to implement the publications strategy. Functioning as a member of the Medical Affairs department, this individual will report to the Director, Medical Affairs.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the development, implementation, and execution of publication plan, and provide expertise to the matrix team in developing and executing the plan
  • In development of a strategic publication plan, collaborate with cross-functional, key stakeholders including external collaborators, anticipate risks and identify solutions for publication planning with publication team members, and recognize changes in the healthcare and treatment landscape and adjust publication plans accordingly
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on publication-related matters establishing strong working closely with both internal and external disease-area experts to ensure high quality analysis, interpretation, communication, and publication of data
  • Liaise with agency/vendor partners to ensure timely delivery of quality publication by providing direction, reviewing developed content, and ensuring process is consistent with Arcus' processes
  • Manage annual budget and work within allocated resources, ensuring contracts, SOWs and invoices are submitted accurately and in a timely manner to ensure high quality deliverables
  • Bring subject matter expertise in discussions regarding the creation or updates to departmental SOPs improving/modifying processes and procedures helping to achieve organizational goals
  • Provide strategic and project management oversight of key projects, identifying issues and proposing resolutions, actively seeking solutions and taking calculated risks, where appropriate
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to represent medical affairs, as needed

Qualifications
  • Bachelors, Masters or Advanced (i.e. PharmD, PhD) degree in a life-sciences discipline
  • 7+ years progressive experience in the biopharmaceutical industry
  • 2+ years of diverse Medical Affairs experience(s); Certification as a Medical Publication Professional (CMPP) desirable
  • Oncology (solid tumor or hematologic malignancies) clinical, research, or medical communications experience required
  • Expertise across all aspects of scientific publication strategy, planning and execution during all phases of drug development and commercialization process.
  • Experience working in a matrix environment with other functional groups where consensus across multiple opinions and good working relationships are important
  • Strong leadership presence and the ability to work effectively with other clinical and scientific experts at Arcus
  • Proven ability to think strategically at an enterprise level and make decisions even under conditions of ambiguity, evolving landscapes, fast paced, and tight timelines.
  • Excellent planning, organization, verbal and written communication skills, including managing multiple priorities and projects with flexibility to changing priorities
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Understanding of good publication practices and guidance (GPP, ICMJE), and other guidance related to scientific data communication.
  • Understanding of clinical trial design and execution, statistical methods and clinical trial data reporting requirements
  • Be open, engaging, and transparent, comfortable with conflict and able to push back when needed
  • Global perspective and mindset; ability to work effectively with colleagues and key stakeholders across cultures, backgrounds, and geographies
  • Ability to travel domestic and international approximately 10% of time
