As a Senior HIM and Coding Manager, you will have a key role in the planning, design, development, implementation, execution and maintenance of industry groundbreaking HIM and Coding operational strategies. You will demonstrate a strong commitment to customer relationships by working collaboratively with HSC representatives to facilitate effective outcomes in a timely manner. You will be responsible for initiating, executing, and managing projects associated with company-wide HIM operational and coding initiatives. In addition, on an as needed basis you will provide guidance and support to HSC leadership teams for any newly acquired acute care facilities. This position requires the ability to expertly manage multiple projects and be resilient to constantly shifting priorities.

What you will do in this role:

  • Independently leads and facilitates initiatives for the continuum of operational process improvement.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and strategic guidance on a broad range of Health Information Management (HIM) and coding topicsโ€”including transcription, MPI, ROI, data abstraction, analysis, document imaging, case management, record retention/destruction, revenue cycle, HIPAA privacy, EHR, electronic information management, computer-assisted coding, health informatics, workflow, legal health record, data standards, unbilled management, clinical documentation improvement, and related tools and resources.
  • Actively participate in multidisciplinary teams and special projects to support and enhance coding operations and HIM initiatives.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with the business case model including the promotion, monitoring, and enforcing of standardization across facilities and HSCs.
  • Assists in the development of tools, resources, and educational materials utilizing various methods of instructional design to support HIM and Coding initiatives.
  • Analyze, interpret, and trend complex HIM/Coding data to support operational initiatives; develop and deliver reports, dashboards, and performance metrics; and proactively monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify opportunities for improvement and drive data-informed decision-making.
  • Responsible for coordinating implementation, assessing and supporting technical functionality, troubleshooting, and training aspects for the HIM information systems and related software applications, predominantly Meditech Expanse.
  • Work closely with HIM leadership team to oversee and coordinate strategic planning for HIM systems initiatives. Keep abreast of emerging health information technologies as related to Meditech, Computer Assisted Coding software, Clinical Documentation Improvement software, transcription and other related systems.
  • Support the implementation of the HIM information systems upgrades and coordinate the testing procedures with other stakeholders as needed.
  • Implement, and maintain policies and procedures that facilitate the effective use of the HIM information systems.
  • Employ monitoring techniques and downtime processes to keep the Health Information Systems in sync with other systems in the organization.

What you will need in this role:

  • Undergraduate degree required
  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred, ideally in areas like HIM, Business Administration, IT, or Organizational/Change Management
  • Consulting or proven work experience in areas of process reengineering, revenue cycle shared services, and/or project management strongly preferred
  • Minimum 3 years coding or HIM Ops experience required.
  • Minimum 3 years HIM and Coding operations experience strongly preferred
  • Minimum 3 years management/leadership experience preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of applied data analytical skills preferred
  • MEDITECH, HPF/MPF, and 3M 360 Encompass experience preferred
  • RHIA, RHIT and/or CCS strongly preferred
