POSITION SUMMARY
In collaboration with and under the leadership and management of the Director of Interpreting Services, the Staff Interpreter is responsible for providing ASL interpreting services for individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring adherence to the Registry of Interpreter for the Deaf (RID) Professional Code of Conduct.
The Staff Interpreter must be adaptable, detail oriented, dependable and have the ability to manage confidential information appropriately. Strong interpersonal, and outstanding customer service skills are required. The ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with team members, external customers, and leadership are also required.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Provide interpreting services to individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing using American Sign Language in a variety of settings.
  • Adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Professional Code of Conduct.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and how it pertains to the Deaf community.
  • Review and research professional literature, and attend conferences, and workshops to maintain certification and stay current on best practices.
  • Ability to collaborate in a professional manner in a team environment.
  • Work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Seek manager's support for difficult interpreting situations.
  • Complete required documentation, including Paylocity timecard responsibilities in a timely fashion.
  • Contribute to a supportive work environment with positive and creative participation.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure Interpretek's Mission, Vision, and Values are represented in all interactions.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS AND SKILLS
Bachelor's degree in American Sign Language-English Interpretation or related field is preferred. Must have a valid Driver's License, reliable transportation, and be willing to travel. A minimum of 3-5 years of ASL interpreting is preferred. A minimum of 3-5 years of proficiency in computer and technology skills, including Microsoft Office Suite of products is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Certain coordinated finger, limb or body movement must be performed routinely in the course of regular work. Extended walking, standing, or sitting required. Constant repetitive motion and mental processing may be required which could lead to fatigue.
