What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Medical Coder Apprentice, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Medical Coder Apprentice, you need a solid understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, coding guidelines, and a high school diploma or equivalent, with many employers preferring enrollment in or completion of a medical coding program. Familiarity with coding systems like ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS, as well as experience using electronic health record (EHR) systems, are commonly required, and pursuing certification such as the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) is highly beneficial. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication skills help you accurately interpret clinical documents and collaborate with healthcare teams. These skills are crucial for ensuring precise coding, regulatory compliance, and optimized reimbursement for healthcare practices.

What are some common challenges faced by Medical Coder Apprentices during their training period?

Medical Coder Apprentices often find it challenging to accurately interpret complex medical records and apply the correct codes while adhering to the latest coding guidelines. Adjusting to the fast-paced healthcare environment and managing productivity expectations can also be demanding, especially when balancing on-the-job training with ongoing coursework. Additionally, apprentices may need time to become proficient with electronic health record (EHR) systems and to understand the nuances of insurance billing requirements. Support from experienced coders and regular feedback sessions are helpful in overcoming these challenges.

Parker Services has as open position for a 2nd–3rd year Plumbing Apprentice with experience in restaurant plumbing projects.

This position requires a plumber who can independently and competently perform the following on day one of working for Parker Services:

  • Install a trap primer
  • Install a floor sink
  • Install an indirect drain
  • Size and install a code-compliant grease interceptor, including understanding which fixtures and appliances are required to discharge into grease per local jurisdictional requirements

This is NOT an entry-level position
This is NOT for apprentices without restaurant TI experience
This is NOT for residential-only plumbers

Candidates must already have hands-on experience with commercial plumbing systems, specifically restaurant or installing plumbing in commercial kitchens. You will earn your 01 hours.

We currently have multiple restaurant TI projects scheduled for the year and a strong pipeline of consistent work. We are looking for an apprentice who can contribute to installation and trim work while continuing to grow personally and professionally with a great team.

Why Join Parker Services
Parker Services is a plumbing company focused on restaurant tenant improvement (TI) and commercial construction projects throughout the Seattle area. We are a small, skilled team that works closely together on projects, and we maintain multiple licensed plumbers so apprentices can continue earning 01 hours and developing their commercial plumbing skills.

We prioritize steady, year-round work for our team. Our goal is to keep our plumbers working consistently without seasonal layoffs, while building a strong, reliable crew that takes pride in high-quality work.

Our plumbers work a 4/10 schedule (4 work days), giving you a consistent three-day weekend. We know that fewer commute days and more predictable time off means you can spend more time living your life beyond work - for friends, family, travel and what matters to you.

Qualifications
  • 2nd–3rd year plumbing apprentice working toward an 01 license
  • Mindset: ready to learn and tackle what the job brings
  • Ready to be a part of a team that cares
  • Experience with all phases of restaurant plumbing projects preferred
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Clean driving record and ability to pass a background check

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with installation of plumbing systems on commercial construction and TI projects
  • Assist with commercial gas piping installation
  • Trim out commercial spaces, including installation of sinks, faucets, fixtures, and final plumbing connections
  • Read and work from blueprints and construction plans
  • Support testing and inspection of plumbing systems
  • Troubleshoot installation issues with lead plumbers
  • Ensure all work complies with Washington plumbing code and safety standards

Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform the physical demands of commercial construction plumbing, including lifting up to 75 lbs, working on ladders or lifts, and frequent bending, kneeling, and overhead work.

Benefits
  • 4/10 work schedule (four 10-hour days)
  • Three-day weekends every week
  • Paid holidays
  • 4+ weeks paid vacation
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance (100% employer paid)
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • Opportunity to earn 01 hours
  • Company truck and gas card for qualified employees

Our Core Values
Team Player – We support each other and our customers
Problem Solver – We stay five steps ahead and do everything we can to solve problems
Reliable – We follow through and take pride in our work.
Confident – We know our craft and deliver results.
Work/Life Balance – We work hard and respect time outside of work.

If you’re a commercial plumbing apprentice with restaurant or TI experience looking for steady work and a strong team, we’d like to hear from you.
