Job description

Position Summary
The Accountant at the Fiscal Department performs a variety of duties to update and maintain corporate administrative and accounting records. The duties include: processing client movements, preparing client A/R statements and A/R reports, audit schedules, reviewing accounting transactions to ensure accuracy of information and other similar duties primarily to support the administrative and financial systems of the organization. Please note, this position is full time on-site at our main office in Chicopee, MA.
Pay Rate: $23 - $25 an hour
Schedule: Monday through Friday 9am-5pm (40hrs)
Essential Job Functions
  • Record client movements, charges, and adjustments in the accounting system as necessary.
  • Tracking prepaid deposits to landlords.
  • Collections of outstanding Receivables.
  • Reporting of client A/R balances to the company divisions.
  • Prepare and disburse client A/R statements.
  • Reconcile and post client credit card payments to A/R ledgers.
  • Verify cash & check deposits.
  • Reconcile Fiscal subsidy & service utilization with Program records.
  • Review program Vacancy Data Reports for unreported movements and hospitalizations.
  • Assist A/P with tasks as needed, including sending out Prepaid receipt requests to landlords, and reconciliation of tenant ledgers to MHA accounting system.
  • Reconcile various general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare journal entries and schedules for monthly closings and year end audits.
  • Perform account analysis and other accounting duties as needed.
  • Perform special projects as requested by the Fiscal Leadership.
  • Assist with yearend audit preparation including 990, PC, UFR, and statistical information.
  • Respond to various requests for information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or three years of work experience preferred.
  • Must have knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, bookkeeping and accounting cycle procedures.
  • Strong organizational, communication and computer skills required.
  • Software skills to include Excel, MS Word, Blackbaud and Peachtree.
  • Must have skills to make and verify computations with accuracy, to compile statistical data and prepare routine reports and to work under time constraints.
  • Duties require verbal communication abilities, visual acuity to written and computer screen data, attention to detail and manual coordination and dexterity in the operation of office equipment.
