Grand Valley Medical Specialists (GVMS) is a well-established, physician-owned private practice that’s been serving the Grand Rapids community since the 1930s. Our team includes 15 internal medicine, pediatrics, and family medicine physicians, along with 5 advanced practice providers—all working together to provide compassionate, high-quality care.

We’re currently seeking a detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist with strong analytical skills and a thorough understanding of revenue cycle management. This role is essential to ensuring accurate coding, timely billing, and effective follow-up on claims, helping our practice maintain financial health while supporting excellent patient care.

What You’ll Do
• Accurately code medical services and procedures to ensure proper billing and compliance
• Submit claims in a timely manner and work with insurance payers to resolve denials or discrepancies
• Manage accounts receivable (A/R) by following up with insurance companies to resolve claim issues and ensure accurate payment processing.
• Maintain a strong understanding of payer-specific billing requirements, incentive programs, and reimbursement guidelines
• Identify and address billing issues to maximize revenue and reduce claim rejections
• Provide ongoing education and training to providers on coding updates, billing practices, and payer requirements
• Support compliance by ensuring documentation aligns with current coding regulations and standards

What We’re Looking For

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Certification is preferred but not required
  • At least 2+ years of experience in medical billing
  • Professional communication skills—both verbal and written
  • Experience with Allscripts EHR is preferred but not required
  • Strong organizational skills and a collaborative attitude
