Job Title: Medical Assistant / X-Ray Basic Machine OperatorJob Description
This role combines hands-on clinical care with diagnostic imaging and administrative support in a busy clinic setting. You will provide direct patient care, perform basic X-ray imaging as a licensed Basic Machine Operator, support providers with clinical procedures, and manage essential front office and electronic medical record tasks to ensure a smooth and positive patient experience.
Responsibilities
  • Perform medical assisting duties, including rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, and preparing patients for examinations and procedures.
  • Conduct basic X-ray imaging and radiographs in accordance with Florida Basic Machine Operator (BMO) licensing requirements and clinic protocols.
  • Administer TB tests and other injections or treatments as directed by providers, ensuring accurate documentation and patient education.
  • Change dressings and provide wound care support under the direction of clinical staff, maintaining strict infection control standards.
  • Complete patient updates and data entry accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR), including documenting visits, procedures, and follow-up plans.
  • Answer inbound phone calls in a professional and courteous manner, addressing patient questions, routing calls appropriately, and taking detailed messages for clinical staff.
  • Schedule and coordinate patient appointments, follow-up visits, and diagnostic tests, ensuring efficient use of provider and clinic time.
  • Order laboratory tests as directed, ensure proper specimen handling, and coordinate with laboratory partners for timely processing.
  • Relay lab results to patients and providers in accordance with clinic protocols, ensuring clear communication and appropriate documentation.
  • Perform triage duties, including gathering patient symptoms and history, prioritizing needs, and escalating urgent concerns to clinical staff.
  • Support lab-related tasks such as lab draws and specimen collection, following established safety and quality procedures.
  • Provide front desk support, including patient check-in and check-out, insurance verification, and general customer service.
  • Use EMR systems, specifically Athena, to manage patient records, appointments, and clinical documentation accurately and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with providers, nurses, and other team members to deliver coordinated, high-quality patient care.
  • Maintain exam rooms, X-ray areas, and clinical equipment in clean, safe, and ready-to-use condition.
  • Follow all clinic policies, healthcare regulations, and privacy requirements to protect patient confidentiality and safety.
Essential Skills
  • At least 2 years of experience in medical assisting and X-ray/basic machine operator duties.
  • Medical assisting diploma or certification from an accredited program.
  • Valid Basic Machine Operator (BMO) certification for X-ray in the state of Florida.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience with patient care, including rooming patients, vital signs, and clinical support.

Work Environment
This position is based onsite at a clinic, working three 12-hour shifts per week with rotating weekends and holidays. You will work in a clinical environment that includes exam rooms, X-ray facilities, and front office areas, using EMR systems such as Athena, X-ray equipment, and standard medical and laboratory tools. The role involves extended periods of standing and moving between patient rooms, as well as time at a workstation for documentation and scheduling. The clinic offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and holiday pay. Upon conversion to a permanent role, team members are eligible for additional benefits such as nine paid holidays, 15 days of paid time off, performance-based pay increases, and recognition programs that provide PTO tokens redeemable for additional paid time. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Winter Haven, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
