These internships provide practical exposure to clinical and administrative tasks, such as taking patient vital signs, assisting with medical procedures, scheduling appointments, and maintaining medical records. They typically take place in healthcare settings like hospitals, clinics, or doctor's offices and help participants gain real-world skills, meet certification requirements, and improve employment prospects.

What are medical assistant internship opportunities?

A medical assistant internship involves training to perform the duties of a medical assistant in a clinical setting. Your responsibilities can vary from program to program, but most interns assist staff in providing health care services for patients. As a medical assistant intern, you take patient vital signs, collect specimens, record information on a records system, and assist the physician or nurse during an exam or treatment. Some assistants clean and disinfect rooms and equipment after use and manage supply inventory in the clinic and exam rooms. Interns work under the direct supervision of professional nurses, physicians, and medical assistants.

What kind of hands-on experiences can I expect during a medical assistant internship?

During a Medical Assistant Internship, you can expect to gain practical experience in both clinical and administrative tasks. Interns often assist with taking patient vital signs, preparing exam rooms, updating medical records, and supporting healthcare professionals during patient procedures. You'll also learn how to interact with patients, manage appointment scheduling, and use electronic health record (EHR) systems. This exposure helps you build confidence, develop essential skills, and better understand the workflow of a healthcare team.
