Correctional Medical Assistant – Contract

Location: Gig Harbor, WA
Contract Length: 13 weeks with potential for extension
Anticipated Start Date: June 15
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Holidays/Weekends: No weekends, no holidays

Position Overview

Seeking a Washington State Certified Medical Assistant to provide clinical support services within a correctional healthcare setting in Gig Harbor, WA. This role requires strong clinical skills, professionalism, and comfort working in a structured and secure environment.

Responsibilities
  • Obtain and record vital signs, medical histories, and chief complaints
  • Assist providers with examinations, treatments, and minor procedures
  • Perform EKGs, phlebotomy, injections, wound care, and specimen collection as assigned
  • Administer medications and treatments per facility protocol and scope
  • Document all care accurately in the electronic medical record
  • Adhere to infection control, safety, and correctional facility policies
  • Collaborate with nursing staff, providers, and custody personnel to support patient care
Requirements
  • Active Washington State Certified Medical Assistant (MA-C)
  • Minimum 1 year of recent clinical medical assistant experience
  • Urgent care experience preferred
  • Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills
  • Ability to function independently in a fast-paced, regulated environment

Minimum Requirements:
  • High School diploma or its equivalent
  • Good telephone communication skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

  • Knowledge of clerical functions
  • Current CPR card (if applicable)
  • Current PPD or Chest X-Ray (if applicable)
  • Current Health Certificate (if applicable)
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program; certification preferred
  • Minimum of one year relevant experience preferred.
  • Relevant certification/ license if applicable.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
