Job description

Medical Assistant (MA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Oncology
Location: Gig Harbor, WA
Schedule: Monday - Friday | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM or 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
Pay Range: $22.00 - $35.00 per hour (DOE)
Position Overview
Our Oncology Clinic in Gig Harbor is expanding! With the recent addition of a new Oncologist and the introduction of Bone Marrow Biopsy services, we are looking for a Medical Assistant (or LPN) to join our clinical team.
This role is primarily focused on back-office clinical support in a high-volume specialty setting. You will work 1:1 with a provider, ensuring that patient flow remains smooth and that our patients receive compassionate, efficient care. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment but remains a calm, grounding presence for patients navigating an oncology diagnosis.
Benefits & Contract Details
This is a contract-to-hire opportunity. After the initial 520-hour (approx. 3 months) contract period, there is an opportunity to convert to a permanent hire based on performance.
  • Weekly Pay
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision plans
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan
  • Short-Term Disability & Life Insurance
  • Paid Sick Time

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage high-volume patient flow (up to 30 patients/shift); escort patients to exam rooms, capture vitals, and maintain an organized schedule.
  • Conduct thorough medication reviews and basic assessments, communicating any anomalies or concerns immediately to the provider.
  • Maintain accurate, real-time records within Epic (or similar EMR systems).
  • Assist with clinical tasks related to oncology visits, including preparations for bone marrow biopsies and processing injection orders.
  • Act as a bridge between the provider and the infusion side of the clinic; schedule and confirm follow-up appointments to ensure continuity of care.
  • Sanitize rooms after each visit, restock supplies, and provide general operational support to the clinical team.

The Ideal Candidate
  • Ability to stay composed and professional during emotionally heavy patient interactions and sensitive conversations.
  • A team player who is "coachable," responds well to feedback, and follows leadership direction to maintain a friction-free environment.
  • Someone who takes ownership of their 1:1 provider relationship and shows up ready to support the team.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced setting that requires multitasking without becoming chaotic.

Requirements
  • Active CMA Certification through the Washington State DOH OR an active LPN license.
  • Previous experience in a fast-paced clinical setting; Oncology or Specialty experience is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Epic EMR is not required, but a significant plus.
  • A proven track record of reliability and stability in previous roles.
