PLNU adjunct pay: Using a 3-unit full semester appointment as a pay guide, the adjunct pay range is $5,013 - $6,684. The units will determine the actual salary.

APY 1000: Applied Psychology and You
APY 2000: Cultural Psychology
APY 2010: Human Growth and Flourishing (GE)
APY 2020: Mental Health and Society
APY 2030: Judgment and Decision Making
APY 3000: Motivation and Emotion
APY 3010: Survey Research and User Experience Design
APY 3020: Data Analysis and Visualization
APY 3030: Industrial-Organizational Psychology
APY 3040: Media Psychology
APY 4000: Ethics and Professionalism in Applied Psychology
APY 4010: The Psychology of Justice and Peace
APY 4020: The Psychology of Religious Experience
APY 4030: Contributing to Society (Service Learning Capstone)
A commitment to excellent online teaching at the undergraduate level in a Christian liberal arts context is preferred for a successful candidate.
Adjunct faculty must have knowledge of online pedagogy, instructional strategies and principles appropriate to teaching adult students. Adjuncts are also expected to have knowledge of ways to instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teach online courses through Canvas LMS
  • Develop online courses as needed
  • Invest in students
  • Engage with students via online discussions
  • Evaluate student performance and provide substantive feedback on students' performance on assignments
  • Input Final Grades in Workday.
  • Provide accommodation for students who require it according to PLNU Educational Access Center
  • Participate in program, department, and/or institutional activities as appropriate
  • Contribute in preparing students for their post graduate career and finding who they are called to be

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ph.D. (preferred), M.A. in field of applied psychology, psychology, or similar degree
  • Experience: Evidence of a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching students from diverse backgrounds is preferred.
  • Philosophical: Thorough commitment to the concept of Christian liberal arts education and a desire to work in a Christian university. Supportive of the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination.
  • Personal: Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. In addition, faculty agree to live in agreement with PLNU's Community Life Covenant.
  • The job offer is contingent on the successful completion of a background check. PLNU will consider qualified applicants, including those with criminal histories, in a manner consistent with state and local "Fair Chance" laws.
  • Online teaching experience required
  • Online course development experience preferred
  • Adult teaching experience preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The work is primarily sedentary and may require sitting for extended periods of time. Use of computer equipment: computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Vision to read documents, email and other correspondence, and reports on paper and computer monitor. Hearing and speaking to communicate effectively with others in person and by phone. Will also stand, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 10 lbs throughout the day.
Special Instructions:
The number of adjunct instructors hired varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the department. Please realize that there may not presently be an adjunct position available. When an opening becomes available for which you would be a good match, the hiring manager will be in contact with you for further dialogue, interviews, etc.
Approved applicants will remain in the adjunct pool for the upcoming school year only. To be reconsidered for the following school year, applicants will need to reapply. If hired, official transcripts will be required from all undergraduate and graduate universities attended before a contract is issued.
