The Outreach and Marketing Specialist

JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY

Summary of position:

  • This position supports the community relations department with outreach and marketing in Hamilton and McMinn County locations.
  • Primary responsibilities include coordinating and representing the Center at outreach and community tabling events.
  • This individual also supports the community relations department with content design, marketing and promotional activities, awareness initiatives and special projects.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is an in-person, non-exempt, hourly position with nights and weekends.
  • This position is based at 6049 Shallowford Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421. It requires frequent travel to Hamilton County and McMinn County events and to the central office in Knoxville, TN for meetings and training.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Coordinate the Center's outreach and community tabling events including scheduling, communicating with staff and community organizers, and packing supplies.

2. Represent the McNabb Center at tabling and outreach events

3. Build relationships and develop partnerships with individuals and social, civic and local organizations for volunteer purposes

a. Attend community events to recruit volunteers and bring awareness to the Center's volunteer opportunities.

4. Speakers Bureau/Chamber/Community Awareness Event Representative

a. Responds to requests from the community to supply expert speakers and coordinate speaking engagements with program staff

b. Point of contact for partner agencies and Chamber organizations in Hamilton and McMinn counties for community events and informational needs.

5. Manages Community Relations aspects of the Center's awareness events, which includes engaging appropriate parties, internal communications, marketing and assisting with day-of needs.

6. Coordinate short-term volunteer projects in Greater Chattanooga area

a. Manage volunteers from initial contact through conclusion of volunteer duties.

b. Record and track Center-related volunteer hours.

7. Assist with marketing and promotional activities including content creation and social media monitoring

8. Support Center events such as ribbon cuttings and groundbreakings as needed.

Compensation:

  • Starting salary for this position is $23.56/hr based on relevant education and experience.

    Schedule:

    • Primary working hours are Monday through Friday 8a-5p.
    • Some nights and weekends required for events.

    Travel:

    Frequent travel required to Hamilton County and McMinn County events and to the central office in Knoxville, TN for meetings and training.

    Equipment/Technical Competency:

    • Must have basic competency in office applications such as Word and Excel.
    • Position requires regular use of a computer, and appropriate phone etiquette.
    • Must have knowledge of marketing and promotional activities including content creation and social media monitoring. Some experience with Adobe design products preferred.

    QUALIFICATIONS - Outreach and Marketing Specialist

    Experience / Knowledge:

    Applicant must be highly organized with strong communication skills. Some experience with Adobe design products preferred.

    Education / License:

    Bachelor's degree from accredited institution in communications, marketing or related field.

    Physical/Emotional/Social - Skills/Abilities:

    • Exposure to biological hazards.
    • Hearing of normal and soft tones.
    • Close eye work.
    • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
    • Pushing/pulling up to 150 lbs.
    • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching.
