Job description

Communications Manager

About Us

Travel Lane County promotes the Eugene, Cascades & Coast region to support a vibrant, year-round and countywide economy that enriches our communities. Our team is collaborative, innovative and driven by a shared commitment to serving the place we call home.

The Role

We're looking for a Communications Manager who can create clear, compelling content for key audiences and markets. In this role, you’ll help shape how Travel Lane County communicates with visitors, stakeholders and industry partners across a range of channels.

You’ll write original, audience-focused content tailored to each placement, from destination stories for potential visitors to industry updates for partners and stakeholders. You’ll adapt tone, structure and messaging to fit each placement, producing work that is inspirational, clear and motivating while keeping pace during busy seasons and high-volume production cycles.

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • You write clearly and understand how to land a message. You know that different people need different messages. Whether you're writing for planners, visitors or community members, you can adjust your voice and approach while staying true to the brand.
  • You care about this place. You're curious about the communities across Lane County, not just Eugene. You want to know what makes Oakridge different from Florence, and you're willing to go find out. Our best writing comes from people who are genuinely interested in what they're writing about.
  • You're steady when it gets busy. A caption comes up at the last minute. Three things need routing for approval on the same afternoon. You know how to prioritize, and you don't lose the thread.
  • You share the work instead of protecting it. Content here moves through a lot of hands — marketing, sales, membership, leadership. You collaborate well throughout the review process, welcome feedback as an opportunity to strengthen the final product, and provide thoughtful, constructive input that helps others.
  • You have a strong eye for detail. You catch the typo, double-check the link, notice when something feels off and take pride in putting polished work into the world.
  • You pitch in. We are a small team who is willing to help out wherever needed. Some days that means covering the visitor center or helping at an event. If you enjoy variety, teamwork, and contributing wherever you're needed, you'll thrive in this environment.

What to Expect

You’ll work closely with the Marketing team on projects that support visitor and meeting planner marketing, share visitor economy highlights and keep partners and stakeholders informed.

You'll join a team that works hard, supports one another, and genuinely enjoys collaborating to achieve shared goals. Expectations will be clear, along with the tools, training, and resources you need to succeed and make a meaningful impact.

Your work schedule will respect your life outside of work. Ongoing learning and career development opportunities will align with your goals. Above all, you'll be part of a culture built on trust, teamwork, mutual respect, and a sense of fun that makes coming to work rewarding every day.

Starting pay: $55,000 per year (full-time, exempt)

Benefits include:

  • Medical and dental insurance
  • Paid holidays, vacation and sick leave
  • Employer SEP/IRA contributions after two years

Work that matters

Your work supports important marketing placements and projects on behalf of Travel Lane County and the communities we serve. It requires careful attention to detail, a creative perspective and a professional approach. The work carries real significance because much of what you create reaches the visitors to our region and the partners who help shape the future of the visitor economy here.

Submit your cover letter, resume and 3-5 writing samples to: https://eugenecascadescoast.bamboohr.com/careers/69?source=aWQ9Mg%3D%3D

This position is open until filled. First application review will be August 14.

Travel Lane County is an equal opportunity employer committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone feels welcome and valued.

Purpose of Position:

Produce and deploy high-quality, high-volume content across consumer and industry channels, ensuring Travel Lane County consistently communicates the value of the visitor economy, inspires visitation and keeps partners and stakeholders informed. This role writes original content, designs and deploys email communications, and supports social media execution — thinking constantly about how content can be created once and used across as many channels as possible.

Responsibilities:

Content Creation (40%)

  • Write original consumer-facing content including blogs, destination stories and leisure travel inspiration across channels.
  • Write original industry-facing content including partner communications, organizational updates and storytelling that communicates the value of the visitor economy and transient lodging tax investment.
  • Write original meeting and event planner-facing content including blogs, stories and supporting media across channels.
  • Adapt content for different audiences, following established communications plans and organizational voice guidelines.
  • Identify opportunities to extend a single piece of content across multiple channels and formats.

Email Communications (30%)

  • Layout, proof and deploy the consumer newsletter and industry newsletter in our email automation platform.
  • Produce one-off email communications as directed.
  • Ensure all email communications are accurate, on-brand and deployed on schedule.

Social Media Support (15%)

  • Write captions and prepare posts for organizational social media channels.
  • Get content into the approval pipeline and scheduled in a timely manner.
  • Manage organization’s LinkedIn account, ensuring organizational posts are aligned with campaigns and communications priorities.

Cross-Team Coordination (15%)

  • Work across marketing, sales and membership teams to ensure content is aligned with campaigns, organizational priorities and communications plans.
  • Manage incoming content requests through the project management system, ensuring clarity on timelines and deliverables.
  • Develop and deploy industry-facing communications under strategy set by the Executive Vice President.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support visitor center operations as needed by greeting visitors, answering questions and providing destination information.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

(Percentages provided as a guide only. Work will vary over time.)

Position Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in communications, content creation, journalism or a related field.
  • Exceptional writing skills, with demonstrated ability to produce original, polished content across consumer and industry audiences.
  • Ability to write in an organizational voice and adapt tone and approach for distinctly different audiences — consumer and industry — following an established communications plan.
  • Experience laying out and deploying email communications in Act-On or a similar platform.
  • High-volume producer with strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Comfortable receiving direction from multiple team members and working within a structured approval process.
  • Mission-driven with genuine interest in the visitor economy and community impact.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience in destination marketing, tourism or a related industry.
  • Familiarity with Eugene, Cascades & Coast as a destination and Lane County communities.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and content scheduling tools.
  • Experience with Canva and Adobe Suite.
  • Experience working within a project management system.

Compensation/Hours:

  • Full-time salaried, exempt position based in our downtown Eugene office. May require occasional evening or weekend availability. This position is eligible to work a hybrid in-office/remote schedule after 3 months.
  • Benefits include medical and dental insurance, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave. Employer contribution to SEP/IRA after two years of employment.
  • This position reports to the Vice President, Marketing.
