As an intern, you'll get hands-on experience right away, working alongside project teams and partners to keep things moving. You'll help solve real problems, stay organized, communicate across teams, and make an impact from day one while building the foundation for your career.
Responsibilities
Mortenson is seeking a creative, motivated, and digitally engaged individual to fill the role of Social Media Intern. The intern will help in ideation, creation, and implementation of social media content from across the entire company. The individual in this role will collaborate with other team members, such as communications creators, regional office marketers, innovation specialists, and talent acquisition teams. You'll support the Digital Team by gaining an understanding of Mortenson's services, offerings, teams, audiences, and customers and translating the goals of all stakeholders into relatable, on-brand social media content.
Highlights of your work with Mortenson will include:
  • Brainstorming post ideas for our platforms: LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.

  • Capturing content on local job sites and at headquarters.

  • Writing captions for posts.

  • Helping organize our content calendar.

  • Collaborating with team members from across the company to curate a diverse perspective on our platform.

  • Implementing fully formed content for campaigns.

  • Learning about paid and organic media planning as well as content construction.

  • Answering questions and giving feedback in our message inboxes.

  • Creating fun and sharable images, gifs, and various motion graphics content.

Program Overview:
Our summer intern program (May - August 2027) is designed to give you real, hands-on experience from day one, working on meaningful projects that directly impact the business. You'll gain exposure to innovative work, build professional skills through development opportunities, and be supported by a team that values your growth. Your ideas matter here, and you'll have the chance to contribute, learn, and make a difference while exploring your career path.
Required Qualifications:
Cultivate your skills in your chosen field of study and build your career with Mortenson. We look forward to hearing from you if you:
  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate, four-year degree in Communications, Marketing, or other related degree

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Have previous related internship experience

  • Are currently enrolled as an undergraduate junior

  • Have a basic understanding of construction and generally accepted business practices

  • Have a demonstrated passion for social media and desire to expand your skills

  • Have familiarity with graphic design software and tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro, etc.) and Sketch

  • Possess skills in copywriting, knowledge of current trends, and a passion for visual storytelling.

  • Demonstrate strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills and show initiative and leadership

  • Showcase a positive and professional attitude and solid customer service skills

  • Are detail-oriented, organized, and can effectively handle multiple competing priorities

The hourly wage for college Interns starts at $18. Students may be paid higher wages based on their year in school.
