JOB PURPOSE: Provides an array of evidenced-based and evidenced-informed treatment and rehabilitative services (i.e., individual, group, family, and milieu mental health and supportive services) to youths committed to MEDC
QMHPs/MHPs at MEDC aim to provide effective assessment, treatment, and support to address the criminogenic needs of youths, ensuring their well-being and aiding in their rehabilitation. By addressing the criminogenic needs of youth through targeted intervention and individually tailored and responsive services, QMHPs/MHPs contribute to creating a safer and more supportive environment that aligns with the agency mission and vision to impact and transform young lives, strengthen families, and help youth discover their strengths and abilities and become productive and successful citizens. JOB DUTIES: Provides youth orientation, gathers information, reviews prior evaluations, JJMS record, and disseminates information regarding the youth to MEDC staff, as needed and appropriate.
Ensures that youth are active in the phone system and all contacts are approved. Contacts parents/guardians within 72 hours of youth's arrival and maintains contact while at MEDC. Based on information gathered and in collaboration with the youth and youth's family (as applicable), the assigned clinician identifies, develops, coordinates, and implements an individualized plan for service and treatment for each youth assigned to caseload.
Provides treatment services to youth on an individual and group basis focusing on treatment team goals (criminogenic needs) and plan for services to meet their needs and to enhance their ability to function in more socially appropriate ways. In addition, counsels youth, as needed, related to their behavior and progress in all phases of commitment and prepare them for positive reentry into the community. Provides family therapy, as needed.
Maintains responsibility for completing all necessary clinical documentation, to include assigned sections of the, VVSAS, ISSPs, USSPs, unified board reports, isolation documentation, and other pertinent clinical documents, in a timely manner. In addition, ensures appropriate forms and documentation of clinical services are uploaded in a timely manner within appropriate systems (Medicat and JJMS). Attends and participates in scheduled staffings, conferences, and training.
Contacts and meets with youth's ISO's and attends meetings with any parties involved with youth's care (DSS workers and ect), as needed. Attends and facilitates isolation multidisciplinary meetings, as needed. Serves as the clinician on-call on a rotating basis.
Provides crisis intervention on an as-needed basis to youth. Performs other related duties, as necessary. Minimum and Additional Requirements STATE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A master's degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or a related field, and professional experience in mental health, human services or social services program.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of counseling skills, techniques, and interventions. Knowledge of child and adolescent development, mental and behavioral health, and family systems, including best practices and treatment modalities (e.g., motivational interviewing, DBT skills, cognitive behavioral interventions, etc.) to address issues in these areas. Knowledge of psychopathology and diagnostic assessment
Knowledge of applicable ethical and legal standards. Knowledge of effective case management and treatment planning principles. Ability to integrate information from various sources.
Ability to engage youth and families from varied backgrounds, lived experiences, and cultural perspectives. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to identify need for technical assistance/consultation and develop resources to meet those needs.
Little to no overnight travel is expected. Provide on call services on a rotating basis with other mental health professionals. This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of DJJ, and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with youth within the jurisdiction of DJJ.
Role requires ability to be flexible and adapt within a potentially high-stress environment, with an emphasis on safety and effective management of youth behaviors. Preferred Qualifications PREFERRED AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: A master's degree in counseling, counseling psychology, applied psychology, or social work with at least one year of direct clinical experience; state licensure as an LPC-A, LPC, LPC-S, LMSW, or LISW-CP.
