Position Summary
The Mechanical Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading the maintenance, reliability, and continuous improvement of mechanical systems and infrastructure supporting Primary End operations, including the EAF, LMF, VTD, Casting, Refractory, and crane systems. This position manages mechanical maintenance activities, projects, outage planning, preventive and predictive maintenance programs, critical spare parts, and contractor support to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient equipment performance. The role provides leadership to the mechanical maintenance team by setting clear expectations, supporting employee development, promoting collaboration, and ensuring compliance with company requirements.
Main Responsibilities / Essential Functions
  • Manage maintenance, and reliability of mechanical systems supporting the EAF, LMF, VTD, Casting, Refractory and cranes.
  • Develop, revise, and continuously improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Ensure all company safety practices, procedures, and mechanical safety requirements are followed and continuously improved.
  • Manage team by establishing clear objectives, monitoring performance, encouraging professional development, and promoting collaboration and engagement among team members. Ensure the team is efficient, productive, and produces high-quality results.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and problem-solving activities related to equipment failures and reliability concerns.
  • Manage and maintain critical spare parts inventories.
  • Hold regular outage planning meetings and publish detailed outage plans in a timely manner.
  • Conduct crew meetings, safety meetings, and contractor meetings.
  • Support apprentice, cooperative education, and student development programs.
  • Monitor and coach contractors on specific time-sensitive issues and concerns.
  • Complete required training and ensure all team members remain current on required training.
  • Understand and support the company's goals and values and ensure adherence to company, department, safety, environmental, quality, and ethics policies and procedures.

About You / Qualifications
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial setting
  • Minimum 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience
  • Excellent knowledge of industrial mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment
  • Strong understanding of production planning and maintenance systems
  • Experience scheduling employees, equipment, projects, and outages
  • Experience with CMMS systems
  • Good computer skills, including proficiency in M365 and familiarity with AI tools
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, interpersonal, and teamwork skills

Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field
  • 5+ years of industrial mechanical maintenance experience
  • Extensive knowledge of steelmaking mechanical systems
  • Experience managing multi-day maintenance outages using MS Project or similar project management software
