Job description

Daifuku Airport America Corporation is a subsidiary of Daifuku North America a group company of Daifuku in Japan - the largest material handling company in the world. Our advanced systems move everything from car bodies at auto plants to luggage at airports to packaged goods at warehouses. We are known as experts in engineering, manufacturing, and servicing innovative automated materials handling systems including conveyors, automatic guided vehicles, automated storage & retrieval systems, and integrated controls.

The company is currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer II.

The Mechanical Engineer II is a member of the Airport Baggage Handling engineering team that reports to the Group Engineering Director.  This position will work under the direction of the Lead Senior Mechanical Engineer and/or Project Engineer. The Mechanical Design Engineer will develop the layout final design, design equipment power transmission, order equipment, develop mechanical commissioning plans and participate in commissioning of Airport Baggage Handling projects. In this role you will complete system designs, in part and as a whole, in addition to layout work, both on your own and in close collaboration with others. At times you may coordinate activities related to fabrication, operation, application, installation and repair of these systems. You will ensure that the project deliverables meet the specified requirements while keeping it on schedule and on budget.


Responsibilities 

  • Actively engages in the design and development of mechanical conveyor systems for Airport Baggage Handling projects in the AutoCAD 2D and 3D environment, including checking.
  • Design and development of detail drawings for shop fabrication, including checking.
  • Preparation of specifications, drawings, and process descriptions for Manufacture, fabrication, and subcontract.
  • Design/selection of conveyor equipment, including power transmission equipment.
  • Ordering mechanical equipment on an Engineering level while interfacing with Purchasing and vendors.
  • Participate in testing and commercial installation and commissioning efforts. This may include office and/or site involvement.
  • Support proposals and customary inquiries which promote future product sales.
  • Meeting timelines to ensure projects stay on schedule and on budget.
  • Participate in design review meetings.
  • Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

  Basic Broad Knowledge 

  • Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Production and Processing — Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • English Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

Basic Skills & Abilities 

  • Time Management — Managing one's own time and the time of others.
  • Critical Thinking — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Judgment and Decision Making — Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.

  • Travel – Travel to manufacturing facilities, customer and project sites.

Education & Experience

  • BSME, BSMET or relevant technical degree, or a combination of relevant work experience with industrial automation or material handling systems design.
  • 3-5 years experience
  • AutoCAD experience in 2D and 3D.
  • Experience in Inventor, preferred.
  • Experience with material handling systems, preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

Demonstrated Physical Abilities

Remain stationary for 50% of the time; move/traverse throughout the office to access file cabinets and office equipment; operate a computer and other productivity machinery; inspect documents; communicate with others through talking/hearing; read/identify/assess forms and correspondence. Capability of maneuvering through an industrial conveyor system requiring climbing access ladders, negotiating catwalks and lifting and/or carrying objects up to 40 lbs.
