This role offers the opportunity to manage challenging technical assignments while building trusted client relationships and contributing to business growth.
We are looking for a highly motivated, technically proficient engineer who thrives in a consulting environment, enjoys managing complex design challenges, and is eager to take increasing ownership of client and project success.
Description
The Project Engineer will independently lead technical design efforts across multiple projects, serving as both a hands-on technical resource and a primary client contact. This position requires strong process-mechanical design capabilities, multidisciplinary coordination, cost estimating, and direct client interaction. You will develop projects from conceptual planning through detailed design and construction support, guiding junior staff, coordinating with vendors and contractors, and delivering high-quality engineering solutions that meet client needs.
This position is ideal for engineers ready to take a leadership role in project execution while actively building lasting client relationships and contributing to the continued growth of the firm.
Specific Responsibilities include
  • Lead and execute process-mechanical engineering tasks for industrial projects, including pulp & paper, chemical, power, and manufacturing facilities.
  • Manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets while coordinating work across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Develop conceptual designs, equipment layouts, process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and detailed construction documents.
  • Perform engineering calculations including flow modeling, pressure drop, pump sizing, equipment selection, material handling systems, and hydraulic analysis.
  • Develop capital cost estimates, project schedules, and material specifications.
  • Supervise and mentor junior engineers, designers, drafters, and technicians as part of the project team.
  • Serve as primary client contact for assigned projects, maintaining strong, trusted client relationships and identifying future business opportunities.
  • Perform site visits, field verifications, and construction support throughout project execution.
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and equipment suppliers to ensure design integration and constructability.
  • Prepare technical reports, project summaries, and recommendations for clients and internal review.
  • Participate in proposal preparation, client meetings, and business development activities.
  • Travel to client sites as needed (typically less than 25%).

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Paper Science Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive design engineering experience on multidisciplinary industrial projects.
  • High proficiency in process piping design, fluid systems, pump systems, P&IDs, and/or bulk material handling systems.
  • Strong technical expertise in developing both front-end and detailed engineering deliverables.
  • Proven experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and leading complex design efforts.
  • Strong project management skills with experience in schedule and budget management.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D modeling software required.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a growth-oriented, client-first approach.
