Job description

Description

GMB is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to fill a role on our project teams. Our ideal candidate is a humble and confident mechanical engineer with a passion for educational design, and at least seven (7) years of relevant skills and experience. The purpose of this role is to provide expertise and leadership in the technical aspects of mechanical project design including code compliance, specifications, system integration and constructability.

Why Work with Us? This is the part where most job descriptions jump into the responsibilities and requirements for the role being posted - and we'll get there shortly! But we like to start with the why instead of the what.

Our purpose is helping build strong communities through educational opportunity. We focus on projects within the educational ecosystem, from Pre-K through Higher Education and spaces in our community that support lifelong learning. Our integrated team gets to work together on a wide range of project types - building design, performance engineering, communications campaigns, branding, enrollment marketing, financial analysis, projections and planning - and we're proud of the impact that our work has on the lives and trajectories of students across the United States. Will you join us?

As a Mechanical Engineer at GMB you will:

  • Participate in project team meetings and attend construction meetings with the client and project manager.
  • Build collaborative professional working relationship with various disciplines.
  • Prepare building models, detailed construction documents, construction documents, load analysis, equipment sizing, ductwork sizing, hydronic system design, and specifications.
  • Develop expertise in a wide variety of complex and high efficiency mechanical systems.
  • Regularly communicates with Project Manager(s) and team members to understand any changes to project design, scope, schedule and budget. Complete work in a timely manner and alert team members when a change in scope of work changes.
  • Create and maintain a positive relationship of trust with Clients regarding your area of expertise.

What type of knowledge do I need to succeed in this role?

More than a specific degree and exact number of years of experience, we're most excited about what kind of knowledge you bring. For this role, we are seeking someone with advanced knowledge who uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways with the ability to guide and support more junior teammates performing related tasks.

Some components that may help indicate you are at this knowledge milestone include more tangible items like:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program.
  • 7+ years relevant experience in mechanical system design.
  • Experience coordinating work with multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the creation and interpretation of construction drawings and specifications, mechanical standards, regulations, and building codes.
  • Ability to successfully prioritize work, manage multiple projects, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite, including Teams, Word, Excel and Outlook.

What might set you apart from other candidates?

  • Pursuing licensure or licensed professional engineer (PE) preferred.
  • Skill in the use of Autodesk Revit to produce mechanical design documents.
  • Comfort with communicating professionally with internal and external customers across all levels of an organization.
  • Demonstrated passion for the field of mechanical engineering and architectural engineering consulting field.
  • Excellent communication skills.

We might be a great match for each other if you are:

  • A self-starter with great time management who thrives in an environment with cross-discipline collaboration and team level decision making.
  • An individual who contributes beyond themselves, is motivated by their team's success and works hard to ensure it.
  • Someone who enjoys trying new ideas and constantly improving.
