Job description

Sutphen Corporation is the oldest continuously family-owned and operated fire truck manufacturer in the United States of America. With a mission to build the safest, most reliable fire trucks in the world, Sutphen has manufactured emergency fire apparatus for fire departments all over the country for more than 136 years.
Sutphen is seeking a mechanical engineering technician to join our team in Dublin, Ohio.
The Mechanical Engineering Technician serves as the critical link between Engineering and Manufacturing, ensuring designs are accurately translated into high-quality products on the production floor. This hands-on role supports production teams by troubleshooting technical issues, improving manufacturing processes, validating engineering designs, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Manufacturing & Production Support
• Provide day-to-day engineering support to manufacturing teams on the production floor.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, assembly, fit-up, and fabrication issues as they arise.
• Work directly with production personnel to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
• Support production builds by answering technical questions and clarifying engineering requirements.
• Evaluate and resolve non-conformance issues and recommend corrective actions.
Engineering Support
• Interpret and review engineering drawings, bills of material, specifications, and work instructions.
• Assist engineers in developing and implementing design improvements.
• Create and revise CAD models, drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
• Support engineering change orders (ECOs) and ensure changes are effectively communicated to production teams.
• Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes, product quality, safety, and efficiency.
• Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
• Support lean manufacturing, cost reduction, and productivity improvement initiatives.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Partner with Engineering, Production, Quality, Purchasing, and Supply Chain teams to resolve technical challenges.
• Partnership and resolve issues
• Communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
• Support new product introductions and production readiness activities.
• Assist with vendor and supplier technical inquiries when needed.

What We're Looking For
• Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related technical field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or engineering support environment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of material.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Proficiency with CAD software and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work effectively in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
