STS Technical Services is hiring a Mechanical Engineer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to support the design and development of heat processing and process cleaning equipment.

This role is ideal for an engineer with three to five years of mechanical or structural design experience who can work with 3D CAD tools, develop detailed drawings, support structural analysis and help validate systems through testing.

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineer applies mechanical and structural engineering principles to the design and development of heat processing and process cleaning equipment.

The position supports routine and intermediate engineering assignments while continuing to develop more advanced applied engineering skills.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare final drawings from engineering sketches, specifications and supporting documentation
  • Develop layouts for systems, components and parts
  • Create multiple drawing views showing component relationships
  • Identify dimensions, angles, curvatures, tolerances and materials
  • Serve as the mechanical technical lead on assigned intermediate projects
  • Use computer-assisted engineering and design software to complete engineering tasks
  • Occasionally oversee work assigned to Mechanical Engineers and Designers
  • Plan and organize structural analysis activities
  • Support compliance with structural integrity and stability requirements
  • Develop and document structural requirements used to establish system designs
  • Develop test plans and test configurations
  • Analyze and report test results
  • Verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications
  • Organize test programs used to demonstrate compliance to customers and regulatory agencies
  • Modify existing drawings based on design changes
  • Update systems, components, parts and identification details as required
  • Review sales contracts and identify critical project criteria
  • Support project completion within established budgets
  • Maintain accurate and organized engineering records and documentation
  • Support decision-making and problem-solving throughout assigned projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Structural Engineering
  • Three to five years of related experience in a mechanical or structural design environment
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD tools
  • Experience with SolidWorks, Inventor or similar platforms
  • Fundamental understanding of 2D CAD tools such as AutoCAD
  • Fundamental understanding of thermodynamics
  • Fundamental understanding of fluid flow
  • Understanding of NFPA requirements
  • Understanding of NEC requirements
  • Understanding of UL requirements
  • Understanding of CE requirements
  • Understanding of OSHA requirements
  • Ability to accurately record and document engineering information
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with general office software
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and/or MRP/ERP systems
  • Ability to follow verbal, written and diagram-based instructions
  • Basic mathematical skills involving whole numbers, fractions and decimals
