Job description

Sr. Mechanical Engineer
We are currently in search of a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to join our Research and Development department of the Marquardt Group in our location Rochester Hills (USA).
TheSenior Mechanical Engineer leads the development of automotive interiorswitches from concept through production launch. This role requires extensiveproduct development experience, advanced CAD proficiency with Siemens NX, comprehensiveGD&T knowledge, and strong understanding of simulation and testing. Theideal candidate has deep automotive design and manufacturing knowledge, driveskey technical decisions, and provides technical mechanical engineeringleadership across cross-functional teams.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Develop the design, drawings, and specifications necessary to support the development of new products and modification of existing products
  • Develop mechanical engineering requirements based on the system specifications and customer expectations
  • Perform and interpret complex calculations including kinematic analysis, performance analysis, stress analysis, etc
  • Perform engineering validation testing, support DV and PV testing, interpret results, and execute design improvements
  • Serve as technical mechanical engineering resource for assigned projects throughout the product lifecycle
  • Partner with industrial engineers, tooling engineers, and suppliers for the development of production equipment and component tooling to support equipment, tooling, and manufacturing processes
  • Build project schedules and execution plans, coordinating internal and external resources
  • Investigate complex issues and propose cost-effective, robust solutions
  • Prepare and deliver customer presentations on new designs and product changes
  • Contribute to large engineering programs, managing multiple tasks and deliverables

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field
  • 7+ years of mechanical product development experience in automotive
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD; Siemens NX required, CATIA V5 preferred
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, plastics, and high-volume injection molding
  • Proven experience with DFMEA, DFM, and other engineering related quality tools
  • Extensive experience with root-cause analysis and structured problem-solving
  • Ability to interpret simulation results (FEA, illumination, thermal)
  • Proficiency in engineering calculations (tolerance stacks, free body diagrams, stress/force analysis)
  • Ability to support test engineering, troubleshoot issues, and analyze results
  • Demonstrated planning, decision-making, and project leadership skills
  • Experience leading and coordinating work with remote engineers, designers, and analysts
  • Experience contributing to cross-functional teams
  • Strong verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to build effective relationships with peers, managers, suppliers, and partners
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills
  • Ability to understand and execute complex instructions in a fast-paced environment

Travel:
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally as needed required (~10%)
