Job description

Mechanical Engineer

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, analyzing, and improving mechanical systems and components to meet project requirements and industry standards. You will be responsible for applying engineering principles to develop innovative solutions that enhance system performance, reliability, and constructability. This role involves collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including civil/structural, electrical, quality assurance, and project management to ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs. You will utilize simulation and analytical tools to evaluate heat transfer and stress, ensuring safety and compliance. Ultimately, your expertise will contribute to the successful delivery of high-quality mechanical designs that meet customer expectations and regulatory guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering design and development.
  • Experience with friction loss calculations and system hydraulics analysis as well as stress analysis techniques.
  • Strong understanding of heat transfer principles and mechanical system behaviour.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering analytical methods to solve complex mechanical problems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.
  • Familiarity with specifying materials for chemical compatibility
  • Previous experience working in a collaborative, cross-functional engineering environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop conceptual design basis documentation and perform calculations to size pumps, controls valves, and analyze the performance of piping systems.
  • Work with design team to develop and deliver engineering drawings such as PFDs, P&IDs, and construction documents including plan, section, and isometric piping drawings.
  • Responsible for Quality Assurance and Quality Control for all mechanical engineering documents and drawings for assigned projects.
  • Review the work of junior engineers to ensure designs meeting technical requirements of the client, meeting industry, local, and national codes and standards, and follow good engineering and design practices.
  • Develop labor and cost estimates for potential projects.
  • Lead mechanical work and coordinate all aspects of projects with the client and other disciplines.
  • Lead the development of material and equipment specifications and bills of materials.
  • Perform stress analysis and friction loss calculations to evaluate piping systems under various load conditions and optimize designs accordingly.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to review design concepts, provide technical guidance, and resolve engineering challenges.
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and specifications to support design validation.
