MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Mechanical Engineer to join our team. This position is remote out of Virginia, but requires occasional travel to Chesapeake or Norfolk, VA, for client meetings and events.
The Mechanical Engineer will leverage their strong technical background and knowledge to support Military Sealift Command (MSC) maintenance management and data development. You will help ensure the reliability of mission-critical platforms by performing technical studies, failure investigations, and providing engineering recommendations for propulsion, auxiliary, and HVAC shipboard systems.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Performing a wide range of technical and engineering studies, including economic analyses and failure investigations for preventive and predictive maintenance.
  • Collaborating with ship's force to identify maintenance repair requirements and supporting shipyard availabilities with expert analysis.
  • Developing Mechanical System Calculations and Schematics, including System Load Estimates and Pipe Sizing/Fluid Flow Calculations.
  • Executing HVAC Calculations, Pressure Drop Calculations, and Thermostat & Reheat Design/Selection to ensure environmental system integrity.
  • Interpreting ship's drawings and equipment technical manuals to develop comprehensive preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Supporting the Military Sealift Command (MSC) by providing engineering recommendations for propulsion, shafting, and auxiliary shipboard systems.
  • Utilizing specialized software for modeling and equipment selection methodology to meet complex marine design requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 7+ years of experience with specialized vessels in one or more of the following areas: Expeditionary Fast Transport Vessels (T-EPF), Hospital Ships (T-AH), Dry Cargo/Ammunition Ships (T-AKE), Underway Replenishment Oilers (T-AO), Cable Laying/Repair (T-ARC), Rescue/Salvage Ships (T-ARS), Submarine Tender (T-AS), Fleet Ocean Tugs (T-ATF), Command Ship (LCC), Expeditionary Mobile Base (T-ESB), Fast Combat Support Vessels (T-AOE) or like vessels.
  • Experience with complex marine propulsion and auxiliary systems with demonstrated expertise in propulsion system design.
  • Experience performing pipe sizing, fluid flow calculations, and HVAC pressure drop models in a naval environment.

Preferred Qualifications :
  • Experience with Pipe-Flo and/or ANSYS (or similar software), MathCAD, Adobe Pro, AutoCAD, and MS Office Suite.
  • Experience creating, maintaining, and communicating complex technical documentation and mechanical engineering studies.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or advanced certification in maritime mechanical systems.
  • Self-starter with excellent people skills - able to work across teams, organize meetings/boards, and drive change throughout an organization.

Clearance Requirements:
  • An active Secret clearance is required for this position.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, climb ladder wells on vessels, etc.
  • Frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve attending meetings.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

The projected compensation range for this position is $70,200.00-$117,000.00. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
