Mechanical Designer (Contract/Consultant, Part-Time/Flexible)
Job Description
This contract Mechanical Designer role supports the design and drafting of engine-mounted power systems for mobile platforms using SolidWorks 2026. You will focus on sheet metal packages and related components for high-efficiency, belt-driven AC power generation systems used in demanding, mission-critical, and industrial environments. Responsibilities
- Support mechanical drafting and design efforts for engine-mounted power systems and related components.
- Design and refine sheet metal packages and enclosures for mobile, vehicle-mounted, and marine power generation systems.
- Modify and update existing SolidWorks assemblies to incorporate design improvements and new requirements.
- Create detailed manufacturing drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, and notes suitable for fabrication and assembly.
- Develop sheet metal parts, weldments, and mechanical assemblies within SolidWorks 2026.
- Produce clear and accurate parts and assembly drawings that support efficient manufacturing and installation.
- Collaborate with engineering stakeholders to ensure designs meet performance, durability, and integration requirements.
- Contribute to new product development activities by translating concepts into manufacturable designs.
- Ensure that all design work aligns with industry best practices and supports reliable operation in demanding field conditions.
- Maintain organized CAD files and documentation to support ongoing design revisions and future projects.
Essential Skills
- Proficient SolidWorks experience, ideally with SolidWorks 2026 or similar recent versions.
- Hands-on experience with sheet metal design in SolidWorks.
- Experience creating parts and assembly drawings suitable for manufacturing and assembly.
- Experience developing manufacturing drawings with appropriate dimensions, tolerances, and fabrication details.
- Experience creating weldments and mechanical assembly drawings.
- Strong mechanical design skills with attention to detail and manufacturability.
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks within a flexible, part-time schedule.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with fabricated equipment is preferred.
- Experience with vehicle-mounted products is preferred.
- Bracket design experience is a plus.
- Experience in new product development is a plus.
- Interest in building a long-term, ongoing relationship as a regular SolidWorks design resource.
Work Environment
This is a contract/consultant role with flexibility to work between 20 and 40 hours per week. The first project will be performed onsite, after which hybrid or remote work options will be available based on project needs. Standard working hours follow a Monday through Friday daytime schedule. You will work with modern CAD tools, including SolidWorks 2026, to support the design of compact, lightweight, and durable power generation systems for vehicle and marine applications operating in demanding field conditions.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $50.00/hr.
