JOB TITLE: Temporary Mechanical Designer (Contract Assignment)
Department: Engineering
Reports To: Quality and Engineering Manager
Pay Rate:  $40-$42/hr
POSITION SUMMARY:
Kelly Engineering is seeking a Contract Mechanical Designer for our client in Montebello, CA. The Mechanical Designer will provide hands-on drafting and design support to the engineering team, focusing on updating 3D models, preparing engineering drawings, and managing Bill of Materials (BOM) documentation. Utilizing SolidWorks as the primary CAD tool, this role supports three engineers and ensures timely, accurate updates to both mechanical and basic electrical documentation, including ladder diagrams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • 3D Modeling & Drafting: Update existing 3D designs and engineering drawings in SolidWorks based on engineer sketches, markups, or direction.
  • BOM Updates: Maintain and update Bills of Materials in line with design changes and project documentation.
  • Design Edits: Revise drawings and models as part of the change management process; track and implement engineering change orders (ECOs).
  • Ladder Diagrams: Assist with drafting or updating basic electrical ladder diagrams under engineer guidance.
  • Documentation: Prepare, organize, and file engineering drawings and technical documents to company standards.
  • Team Support: Work directly with mechanical and mechatronics engineers to clarify requirements and implement design changes.
  • Compliance: Ensure all drawings and documentation meet engineering and quality control standards.
  • Cross-functional Coordination: Communicate with purchasing, manufacturing, and quality as needed to support design updates.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate’s degree in Drafting, Design, Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with SolidWorks (required) and familiarity with engineering drawing practices.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical and electrical design concepts; experience with ladder diagrams is a plus.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing, engineering, or related technical environment preferred.
  • Good organizational skills; able to handle multiple design change requests simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented and able to work independently within a set timeline.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
