How much do mechanical design analysis engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 20, 2026, the average yearly pay for mechanical design analysis engineer in Indiana is $87,142.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $72,300.00 and $98,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What does a mechanical design analysis engineer do?

A Mechanical Design Analysis Engineer is responsible for designing and analyzing mechanical components and systems to ensure they meet performance, safety, and reliability standards. They use computer-aided design (CAD) software and simulation tools to model and test designs under various conditions. Their work often involves collaborating with other engineers, reviewing technical drawings, and optimizing designs to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Additionally, they may be involved in prototype testing and troubleshooting to resolve any design issues before manufacturing.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a mechanical design analysis engineer?

To thrive as a Mechanical Design Analysis Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical engineering principles, proficiency in design and analysis methodologies, and typically a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with CAD software (such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD), finite element analysis (FEA) tools, and relevant industry codes or certifications (like PE licensure) is essential. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you excel in collaborating with cross-functional teams and presenting technical findings. These competencies ensure the development of reliable, efficient products and effective resolution of design challenges.

How does a mechanical design analysis engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a product development cycle?

Mechanical Design Analysis Engineers often work closely with product designers, manufacturing engineers, and quality assurance teams throughout the product development process. They provide critical analysis and simulation data to help refine designs, ensure manufacturability, and verify that products meet safety and performance standards. Regular meetings, design reviews, and collaborative problem-solving sessions are common, allowing for real-time feedback and iterative improvements. This collaborative environment ensures that the final product is optimized from both a design and engineering perspective.

What is the difference between Mechanical Design Analysis Engineer vs Mechanical Design Engineer?

AspectMechanical Design Analysis EngineerMechanical Design Engineer
Primary FocusAnalyzing mechanical systems for performance, stress, and durabilityCreating and developing mechanical components and assemblies
Skills & CertificationsFEM, CAD, analytical tools, engineering degreesCAD, design software, engineering degrees
Work EnvironmentDesign validation labs, simulation software, R&D teamsDesign offices, manufacturing plants, prototyping labs
Industry UsageAutomotive, aerospace, manufacturing, R&DProduct development, manufacturing, engineering firms

Both roles require engineering degrees and CAD skills, but the Mechanical Design Analysis Engineer specializes in evaluating and testing mechanical systems through analysis, while the Mechanical Design Engineer focuses on creating and developing new mechanical designs.

Job description

Mechanical Designer

About the Opportunity

Our client, a leading manufacturer of industrial equipment, is seeking a Mechanical Designer to join its growing product development team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys taking concepts from design through production, collaborating with engineers and suppliers, and seeing their work become a finished product.

Working alongside a collaborative engineering and design team, you'll create detailed production drawings, support prototype development, and help improve existing products in a modern manufacturing environment.

What You'll Do

  • Create 3D models and detailed production drawings using SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Design mechanical components and assemblies for new and existing products.
  • Develop manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Support engineering change requests and product revisions.
  • Participate in prototype builds to verify fit, function, and manufacturability.
  • Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and suppliers to improve designs and reduce manufacturing costs.
  • Review designs for accuracy, tolerance stack-up, and manufacturability.
  • Help maintain engineering documentation and drawing revisions.
  • Support continuous product improvements through engineering and design updates.

What You'll Be Working On

This role is heavily focused on mechanical design for fabricated components and assemblies, with a strong emphasis on sheet metal design.

You'll spend much of your time:

  • Creating and revising production drawings.
  • Designing parts and assemblies in 3D CAD.
  • Supporting prototype builds and design validation.
  • Collaborating with engineers and suppliers to improve products before they reach production.

As you become familiar with the products, you'll take on increasingly complex design work and larger engineering projects.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience using SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or another 3D CAD platform.
  • Experience creating detailed manufacturing drawings and assemblies.
  • Understanding of engineering drawings and drafting standards.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in any of the following is a plus:

  • Sheet metal design
  • Fabrication or manufacturing environments
  • Product development
  • Prototype development and testing
  • Engineering change management (ECO/ECR)
  • ERP or manufacturing software

A degree is preferred but not required. Relevant design experience is valued more than formal education.

What You'll Enjoy

  • Opportunity to work on products from concept through production.
  • Hands-on involvement with prototype builds and product testing.
  • Modern CAD tools and engineering software.
  • Dedicated monthly training and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborative engineering environment with experienced mentors.
  • Flexible scheduling to support work-life balance.
  • Stable company focused on long-term employee success and career growth.

What Makes Someone Successful

We're looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys solving design challenges.
  • Takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Has a positive, team-first attitude.
  • Wants to build a long-term career rather than simply find the next job.
  • Is dependable, collaborative, and eager to continue developing their technical skills.

About Avero

Sourced by ZipRecruiter

In 1997, while working as the CFO of an NYC restaurant group, Avero founder Damian Mogavero, was frustrated with his management team’s inability to answer basic questions about the restaurants’ performance. He wanted a better way to extract the data already being collected by the POS and to enable operators to use it to make better, faster, and more profitable decisions. In 2002, Avero was born. Today, Avero has offices in Dallas, Las Vegas, Boulder, and NYC and is used by over 43,000 operators in 75 countries. And we always stay true to our mission: innovating technology to empower hospitality operators with the answers they need to transform their businesses and their lives.
