Job description

What We Are Looking For

This position will be responsible for providing support for the ABB 8206, Daniel 500, and Emerson 470/700 field gas chromatographs, including troubleshooting and training. Other responsibilities will include performing gas analysis on a variety of lab chromatographs, testing of field metrology equipment, and additional activities within the Kinder Morgan Measurement Lab-KMML. The individual must possess the ability to associate and communicate with a wide variety of people (personalities, skill and education levels, etc.) with tact, courtesy and professionalism.

What You Will Do
  • Providing technical support and assistance to Field Operations personnel with ABB and Daniel/Emerson gas chromatographs and other gas quality devices.
    • Lead training classes on the operation and repair of the ABB and Daniel/Emerson gas chromatographs.
    • Lead audits of field chromatographs, samples systems, and auxiliary equipment.
    • Coordinate with vendors and Project Management to help design new meter sites.
      • Choosing the right chromatograph\\application for the measured gas
      • Sample system design
      • Selecting the appropriate auxiliary equipment
    • Assist field technicians in troubleshooting issues with field chromatographs.

  • Gas analysis through the use of gas chromatographs and gas quality analyzers.
  • Evaluation of new gas measurement / monitoring technology.
  • Enhancing / developing laboratory procedures.
  • Travel estimated from 0 to 20% of the time to field sites and offices with occasional overnight stays.
  • Effectively prioritize workload between multiple projects
  • Ability to take on new projects and shift priorities on short notice
What You Need

Educational Requirements

Candidates with an Engineering degree from an accredited institution, associate’s degree in a related technical subject such as Instrumentation and Electrical, or related military technical training preferred. Candidates with extensive experience and knowledge of ABB and Daniel/Emerson chromatograph troubleshooting and repair will be considered in lieu of a degree

Skills/Experience Requirements

  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing the ABB is strongly preferred. Experience with the Daniel/Emerson online gas chromatographs will be considered.
  • Knowledge of gas sampling systems.
  • Display skills in human relations and have the ability to work effectively and safely with fellow employees, customers and external contacts.
  • Good mechanical and electronic skills.
  • Possess logical, problem-solving, analytical skills.
  • Be able to maintain objectivity and make recommendations based on results.
  • Possess the ability to analyze problems from multiple perspectives and make sound recommendations.
  • Be detail oriented and have good record-keeping skills.
  • Be skilled in the use of Microsoft Office, including Excel.
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong focus on safe work practices.
  • Able to complete work assignments with little supervision in an acceptable time frame.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, keep required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Knowledge of metrology and natural gas industry experience is preferred. Knowledge of industry’s regulatory compliance requirements and standards.
  • Operation of lab chromatographs and related software

Working conditions:

  • Lab based position
  • May be required to work outside of normal business hours on limited notice
  • Ability to meet fixed and tight timelines for multiple projects.
  • Periodic travel to field sites and other offices with occasional overnight (0-20%)
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to company and its insurer
  • Ability to lift and or move objects weighing 50 lbs.
  • This position also has the opportunity to work a flexible work schedule with 9-hour workdays Monday through Thursday and either half day Fridays or every other Friday off.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

Position level, job title, and pay will be determined by candidates’ level of experience and skill.
