Measurement Engineer information

What does a measurement engineer do?

Measurement Engineers are responsible for designing measurement systems, calibrating and maintaining precision instruments, collecting and analyzing data, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. On a daily basis, they may conduct on-site measurements, troubleshoot equipment issues, document results, and collaborate with quality, engineering, and production teams. The role often involves a mix of hands-on technical work and reporting or presentation tasks, making strong organizational and communication skills valuable. This dynamic environment gives you the opportunity to both solve practical problems and contribute to product or process improvement.

What is a measurement engineer?

A Measurement Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining measurement systems to ensure accuracy and precision in data collection. They work with sensors, instruments, and data acquisition systems to monitor physical parameters such as pressure, temperature, and flow. Their role is critical in industries like aerospace, manufacturing, and energy, where precise measurements are essential for quality control and process optimization. Measurement Engineers also analyze measurement data, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve system performance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a measurement engineer?

To thrive as a Measurement Engineer, you need a strong background in engineering principles, mathematics, and data analysis, usually supported by a degree in mechanical, electrical, or related engineering disciplines. Familiarity with measurement instruments, calibration techniques, industry standards (such as ISO/IEC 17025), and software like LabVIEW or AutoCAD is often required. Detail orientation, problem-solving, and effective communication skills help Measurement Engineers excel when collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and conveying findings clearly. These skills ensure accurate measurements, reliable data, and effective solutions in quality assurance, product development, and process optimization.

The achievers and courageous challenge-crushers we seek, have the following characteristics and skills

Position Summary: The Measurement Systems & MRO Manufacturing Engineer supports the Turbine Engine module and full engine assembly process by performing a comprehensive Measurement System Analysis (MSA) on critical hand‑measurement steps used in the MRO environment.

Candidates with A&P mechanic experience are strongly preferred, as hands‑on engine maintenance background provides essential insight into measurement variation, tooling behavior, assembly processes, and practical troubleshooting within an active MRO shop.

What You will Do:

  • Perform full Measurement System Analysis (MSA) on hand‑measurement processes used in turbine engine module and engine assembly
  • Plan, execute, and refine MSA activities including repeatability, reproducibility, bias, linearity, and capability studies
  • Evaluate measurement methods, tooling, and fixturing against customer criteria
  • Deploy rapid “quick hit” improvements to reduce variation and improve measurement accuracy
  • Review established MRO assembly processes and identify opportunities to increase throughput
  • Support module and engine assembly teams with technical guidance and problem‑solving
  • Apply hands‑on engine maintenance knowledge (A&P experience) to validate measurement methods and identify practical improvements
  • Execute short‑duration process improvement projects from concept through validation
  • Document findings, measurement data, improvement actions, and recommendations
  • Provide weekly progress updates, risks, and next steps to customer stakeholders
  • Maintain traceability and compliance with customer standards, LOPs, and MRO requirements
  • Collaborate with MRO technicians, Manufacturing Engineering, Service Operations, and Design teams
  • Work on‑site at a U.S. DoD installation and comply with all access, safety, and security protocols

What You Will Bring:

  • U.S. Citizenship (mandatory for DoD base access)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain access to NAS Kingsville or NAS Meridian
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Aerospace, or related engineering field
  • 2+ years of experience in aftermarket engine support, MRO engineering, cmanufacturing engineering or turbine engine maintenance
  • A&P mechanic experience strongly preferred; hands‑on engine maintenance background is highly valuable for understanding measurement variation, tooling behavior, and assembly processes
  • Strong understanding of Measurement System Analysis (MSA) principles and execution
  • Experience with tooling, fixturing, hand‑measurement methods, and metrology fundamentals
  • Knowledge of gas turbine engine components, systems, tolerances and assembly processes
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute short‑duration improvement projects
  • Experience working in MRO environments or maintenance shops, or overhaul facilities.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience evaluating measurement variation and capability
  • Ability to work independently on‑site in a fast‑paced MRO environment
  • Experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams (ME, Quality, MRO, Design, Service Ops)
  • Familiarity with SAP, databases, and engineering systems (preferred)
  • Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
