Job description

Performs highly advanced technical professional engineering work in the Transportation & Infrastructure Department. Leads complex traffic engineering projects. Develops and updates design standards and policies. Interacts with ADOT, MCDOT, MAG, surrounding agencies and committees. Ensure federal guidelines and requirements are followed. Serve as a technical expert, focus on safe, efficient and city transportation action plan through advanced engineering and project delivery. Manage budget, design, and public presentation. Conduct studies, data analyses, reports, and private development review. This position is responsible supervise, train, and elevate professional or para-professional traffic engineering staff.

Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate's experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed to the side and mid-point for this position is $63.88/hour or $132,870.40/annually.

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited educational institution in Traffic Engineering, Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Eight years' professional level experience in traffic engineering.
  • Must have at least one year of Lead or Supervisory experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and job-related experience may substitute for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer with the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration, OR by the technical board of another state with the ability to obtain Arizona Registration through reciprocity within 6 months of employment.
  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

Street Operations Department Assignment:

* Preferred: Certification as Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE).

Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on division/department/services assignment
