Job description

MCA Communications is seeking a highly experienced Structured Cabling Technician who knows the ins and outs of cabling large commercial facilities. This is a senior-level position for someone who can take ownership of complex installations from rough-in through certification — not a learn-on-the-job role. You'll lead the buildout of MDF and IDF rooms, install support structures and cable pathways, and deliver expert-level copper and fiber work on large-scale commercial projects.

What You'll Do

  • Build out MDF and IDF rooms, including racks, cabinets, ladder rack, backboards, grounding/bonding, and cable management
  • Install support structures and pathways: J-hooks, cable tray, conduit sleeves, innerduct, and firestopping at penetrations
  • Pull, terminate, dress, and label Cat6/Cat6A cabling to industry standards
  • Terminate, splice (fusion), and test single-mode and multimode fiber optic cabling
  • Test and certify copper and fiber links (Fluke DSX or equivalent; OTDR and power meter/light source for fiber)
  • Read and interpret blueprints, riser diagrams, and construction drawings
  • Coordinate with general contractors, electricians, and other trades on active job sites
  • Maintain accurate as-built documentation, labeling schemes, and test results
  • Mentor junior technicians and help enforce quality and safety standards

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of structured cabling experience in large commercial facilities (office towers, hospitals, campuses, data centers, industrial)
  • Deep knowledge of MDF/IDF design and buildout best practices
  • Expert-level Cat6/Cat6A installation and termination skills
  • Strong fiber optic skills: fusion splicing, connectorization, and OTDR testing
  • Working knowledge of ANSI/TIA-568 and 569 standards and NEC requirements
  • Ability to read construction blueprints and telecom drawings
  • Comfortable working on active construction sites (lifts, ladders, PPE)
  • Reliable transportation and ability to pass background check and drug screen

Preferred Qualifications

  • BICSI Installer 2 or Technician certification
  • OSHA 10/30
  • Manufacturer certifications (CommScope, Panduit, Corning, Leviton, etc.)
  • Experience leading small crews or running point on a floor/building

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • Health, dental, and vision benefits
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Steady pipeline of large commercial projects
  • Opportunity for advancement into lead and foreman roles
