WHAT WE NEED
The Plant Controller is responsible for managing the financial operations of the assigned manufacturing plant(s). This role will partner closely with plant management to provide financial insights, reporting, and analysis that drive operational efficiency, cost control, and profitability. The ideal candidate will possess strong financial acumen, attention to detail, and the ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams in a dynamic food manufacturing environment.
This position supports our Macedon, NY and Williamson, NY manufacturing plants. Regular travel to these locations is expected.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Financial Reporting & Analysis
• Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Prepare detailed variance analysis reports for key performance metrics, including labor, overhead, raw material usage, and yield.
• Monitor and analyze production, process, and product costs to identify improvement opportunities.
• Develop key financial metrics and KPIs to track plant operational performance.
Cost Accounting & Analysis
• Perform and lead cost accounting functions to ensure accurate production cost tracking and inventory valuation.
• Lead job costing and process costing initiatives, providing financial analysis to support pricing, product development, and capital investment decisions.
• Ensure accurate generation and maintenance of plant-level standard cost master data.
Budgeting & Forecasting
• Lead plant budgeting and forecasting processes, including annual operating plans, capital expenditures, and long-term financial projections.
• Provide financial insights and recommendations to support cost optimization and operational improvements.
Cost Management & Control
• Collaborate with operations, procurement, and supply chain teams to ensure accurate product costing, standard costing, and variance analysis.
• Monitor and control plant operating expenses to ensure alignment with financial targets.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and lead initiatives to improve cost efficiency.
Inventory Management
• Oversee inventory management to ensure accurate valuation and reporting of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
• Coordinate physical inventory counts and reconcile inventory discrepancies.
Compliance & Internal Controls
• Ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP, and applicable regulatory standards.
• Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard plant assets and ensure financial reporting integrity, including oversight of cycle counts, physical counts, fixed assets, and spare parts inventory.
• Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and explanations.
Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Serve as a financial business partner to plant management, providing guidance on financial matters impacting operations.
• Collaborate with corporate finance, operations, and supply chain teams to align plant performance with company objectives.
• Train and mentor plant finance team members, promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
Capital Project Support
• Provide financial analysis and justification for capital projects and investments.
• Monitor capital project financial performance to ensure alignment with approved budgets.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration. Masters of Business Administration (MBA) or MS Finance is preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in financial management within a manufacturing environment, preferably in food or CPG.
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting, budgeting, and forecasting in a manufacturing setting.
  • Proficiency in SAP and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities, with the capacity to influence and partner with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in a company that has an aggressive growth trajectory, including through merger and/or acquisition activities.
  • Experience development financial strategy, delivering robust insights, and translating financial information to a palatable story that is meaningful across many layers of the business.
