Vice President of Maintenance
The company is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to oversee all aspects of fleet maintenance across a national transportation operation. This executive will guide maintenance strategy, elevate fleet reliability, strengthen operational structure, and ensure the organization is prepared for the future of transportation, including emerging technologies and evolving fleet needs.
About the Role
The Vice President of Maintenance will lead a distributed maintenance organization responsible for the performance, safety, and reliability of a diverse fleet that includes diesel, hybrid, electric, and alternative-fuel vehicles. This leader will shape long-term maintenance strategy, optimize processes, strengthen accountability, and oversee all asset and equipment management. The role partners closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to support operational goals, improve service delivery, and drive operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
• Build and execute a national maintenance strategy that enhances reliability, safety, and consistency across all locations
• Lead maintenance operations, ensuring strong processes, regulatory compliance, and a culture of safety and accountability
• Oversee asset management, lifecycle planning, and long-range fleet forecasting
• Guide inspection standards, preventive maintenance schedules, warranty management, and vendor relationships
• Evaluate and improve maintenance systems and technologies, including asset management platforms
• Drive cost efficiency across labor, materials, and equipment while maintaining high service standards
• Collaborate with Operations, Safety, Procurement, Finance, and other teams to support business goals
• Develop, mentor, and align a nationwide maintenance workforce; ensure training, communication, and performance expectations are clear and consistent
• Support the integration and deployment of new fleet technologies, including EV and alternative-fuel vehicles
What You'll Focus on in the First 6-12 Months
• Learning the business, understanding current-state operations, and building strong alignment with senior leaders
• Assessing structure, systems, and workforce capabilities
• Creating a clear plan for future maintenance operations and supporting transformation work already underway
• Strengthening accountability, communication, and execution across maintenance teams
• Ensuring reliability and cost discipline while improving daily maintenance performance
Preferred Experience
• Strong leadership experience managing maintenance operations in transportation, mobility services, logistics, or a similar industry
• Background overseeing multi-site or regional operations with extensive travel
• Hands-on understanding of maintenance systems, processes, and operational realities
• Experience using asset management systems such as Maximo or similar platforms
• Knowledge of medium and heavy-duty vehicles, including evolving electric and hybrid technologies
• Ability to interpret data, understand cost drivers, and support pricing for new business opportunities
Education & Skills
• Bachelor's degree preferred in Business, Engineering, Transportation, Logistics, or a related field
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Effective communicator with the ability to influence at all levels
• Mechanical aptitude and technical understanding; ASE Master certifications preferred but not required
• Fluency in Spanish preferred
Compensation & Work Expectations
• Travel required up to 60 percent
• Primarily onsite, with a preference for candidates based in Austin or willing to relocate
