Position Overview

Matrix Basement Finishing is seeking an experienced Buyer / Purchasing Specialist to support our growing residential remodeling operations. This role is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, tracking, and coordinating construction materials across multiple active projects while maintaining vendor relationships, cost control, and project timelines.

The ideal candidate has 3-5 years of purchasing or procurement experience within the construction, remodeling, or building materials industry and understands the fast-paced demands of residential production environments.

Responsibilities
  • Manage purchasing and procurement of construction materials for active remodeling projects
  • Source and negotiate pricing with vendors, suppliers, distributors, and subcontractors
  • Maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure material availability and delivery performance
  • Coordinate material ordering schedules with production, installation, warehouse, and project management teams
  • Track purchase orders, invoices, deliveries, backorders, and inventory levels
  • Monitor project budgets and assist in controlling material costs and purchasing variances
  • Ensure materials meet project specifications, quality standards, and installation timelines
  • Research alternative products and vendors to improve cost efficiency and operational performance
  • Resolve delivery discrepancies, shortages, damaged goods, and vendor-related issues
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records within company systems and ERP/software platforms
  • Support field teams with urgent material requests and jobsite coordination
  • Assist leadership in developing purchasing processes, vendor standards, and operational efficiencies
  • Stay informed on pricing trends, supply chain conditions, and construction market fluctuations
Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of purchasing, procurement, or buyer experience within construction, remodeling, building supply, or related industries
  • Strong understanding of residential construction materials including:
    • Lumber
    • Drywall
    • Flooring
    • Trim and finish materials
    • Cabinets
    • Plumbing and electrical materials
    • Doors/windows
    • Hardware and specialty products
  • Experience working with vendors, contractors, warehouses, and field operations
  • Strong negotiation and cost-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple active projects and priorities simultaneously
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, purchasing software, ERP systems, or construction management platforms
