Job description

This position is located in Hutchinson.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions -

  • As an on-site instructor work closely with representatives of Hutchinson Correctional Facility (HCF) and the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) following their policies and being responsive to student needs.
  • Conduct classes for students who need basic instruction of math, grammar, writing and basic computer skills at HCF locations as assigned.
  • Work with the Adult Education program coordinator in implementing curriculum and documenting student progress. This will include evaluation of materials and teaching methods.
  • Submit appropriate paper work (pre/posttests, referrals, GED ready scores, and student evaluations) to program coordinator for quarterly reports and to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Attend staff development activities as assigned.
  • Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully perform the responsibilities of the position.
  • Comply with HutchCC policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain effective professional relationships with staff, students, faculty and other HutchCC stakeholders.
  • Assess student learning and application of course objectives and competencies.
  • Design, develop, and maintain course curriculum, materials, assessments, and evaluations according to HutchCC and state standards, and in response to needs and trends.

Secondary -

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Adult Education Coordinator or the Director of the Business and Industry Institute.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, with a preferred education background including education and/or social sciences.
  • Teaching experience is strongly preferred
  • Valid Kansas driver's license.
  • Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills.
  • Proven people-skills and able to develop effective working relationships with college personnel as well as correctional students.
  • Strong written/oral communication and listening skills as well as organizational, decision-making, problem-solving, interpersonal skills.
  • Experience maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Physical requirements: Visual acuity to view a computer terminal; use appropriate judgment, tact, and courtesy in difficult situations; ability to understand words and respond effectively/appropriately; light/indoor work environment.
  • Mental requirements include ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions about the position.
  • Physical and mental qualifications must be performed with or without a reasonable accommodation.

SALARY, HOURS and STATUS:

The salary is commensurate with qualifications as determined by HutchCC administration. This full-time administrative staff position is 12 months annual, benefit eligible, at-will, and exempt.
