3rd Grade Math Lead Teacher
Location: Washington, D.C.
Model: 50/50 English-Hebrew Immersion
Our Mission
Sela was founded to dismantle educational inequity, racial segregation, and cultural isolation. We provide a space where students are celebrated as they begin their journey as global citizens. As a bilingual Hebrew-English school, we proudly serve over 280 students from Pre-K3 through 5th grade in the heart of DC.
The Role
As the 3rd Grade Math Lead Teacher, you will serve as a homeroom co-teacher within our 50/50 immersion model. You will be the primary instructor for Mathematics for the 3rd-grade cohort. You will work jointly with the English Language Arts (ELA) teacher and the Hebrew language teacher to lead many aspects of the day. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality, rigorous math instruction, ensuring a seamless dual-language experience for our diverse student body.
Key Responsibilities
  • Instructional Excellence: Design Common Core-aligned math lesson plans that challenge students while accommodating diverse learning styles.
  • Data-Driven Growth: Regularly analyze formal and informal math assessment data to tailor pedagogical choices and drive student achievement.
  • Classroom Culture: Maintain an inviting, high-energy learning environment through effective classroom management and developmentally appropriate strategies.
  • Collaboration: Partner closely with the 3rd-grade ELA teacher and Hebrew co-teacher to ensure curricular coherence and a unified student experience.
  • Commitment to Equity: Uphold the firm belief that all students can achieve at high levels, fostering an inclusive environment that values diversity.
Instruction and Curriculum
  • Plan and deliver standards-aligned 3rd-grade math instruction, focusing on critical areas such as multiplication, division, fractions, and area/perimeter.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that support student engagement, mathematical fluency, and differentiated learning.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Establish clear and measurable learning objectives for students and regularly evaluate progress toward those goals.
  • Participate in collaborative planning with the STEM/Math content-area team.
Classroom Environment and Student Engagement
  • Create and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Implement classroom management practices that promote positive student behavior and engagement.
  • Foster student voice, critical thinking, and independent problem-solving.
  • Ensure equitable access to manipulatives, instructional resources, and academic supports.
Student Support and Collaboration
  • Collaborate with special education teachers, English learner specialists, and counselors to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Participate in student support processes, including Student Support Team (SST) meetings and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
  • Use student performance data to identify learning gaps and provide appropriate math interventions.
  • Implement accommodations and modifications as required by IEPs or 504 Plans.
Family Engagement and Communication
  • Maintain regular, professional communication with families regarding student math progress and classroom activities.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and other family engagement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with families to support student development and success.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (Master's degree preferred).
  • Expertise: Deep subject-matter knowledge in Elementary Mathematics; ideally a major/minor or graduate degree in Education or a STEM field. A teaching license is preferred but not required.
  • Experience: At least two years of elementary teaching experience with a proven track record of student growth.
  • Skills: Exceptional oral and written communication; ability to motivate a diverse group of learners.
  • Eligibility: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
