Job description

Quality Technician
Performs inspection, product testing, quality control, auditing and/or reporting activities before, during, and after the manufacturing processes, to ensure that products comply with design, manufacturing and quality standards. Identifies and analyzes processes and/or products for continuous improvement opportunities. Additionally, is responsible for product qualification testing, non-standard product testing, product development support, specialized site/product specific testing, and interaction with field testers. Monitors supplier performance, serves as a resource for quality issues, and partners with other internal departments for routine investigations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs First Article inspections and processing for components and assemblies as required to support quality, manufacturing or engineering functions. Ensures all First Articles, incoming material, manufacturing processes and outgoing material meet their documented standards and reports results.
  • Performs product qualification testing which includes inspection non-qualified parts and parts from non-qualified suppliers and assesses the quality of raw material.
  • Performs product development support by evaluating new products against the design objectives and requirements for performance.
  • Supports the control and segregation of non-conforming materials. Performs documentation of non-conforming components or assemblies.
  • Develops and performs non-standard product testing to evaluate products with unusual problems in response to manufacturing process or field quality problems.
  • Evaluates and monitors supplier quality performance, and collaborates with suppliers to implement improvements.
  • Manages and controls the calibration of test equipment.
  • Performs routine monitoring of the production process through process audits.
  • Interacts regularly with engineering, manufacturing and service functions during routine investigations and when establishing quality standards.
  • Serves as resource for the Customer Service Center, and analyzes difficult product problems.
  • Maintains and updates quality records and documentation in accordance with established procedures and manufacturing practices.
  • Prepares critical limit samples for cosmetic or functional use to ensure quality of appearance of products.
  • Performs internal product audits and problem analysis to identify issues on fully assembled and sub-assembled products.
  • Promote company safety policies, workmanship standards and operational procedures among team members while displaying strong quality consciousness at all times.
  • Maintains and updates quality records and documentation in accordance with established procedures and manufacturing practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education: Typically, requires an associate degree in science, math, engineering or equivalent.
Experience: Typically requires a minimum of 2 years of experience in performing First Article, non-qualified parts and new product inspection, quality audits and qualification testing.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Proven hands-on approach to verify parts meet the quality demands defined by management.
  • Ability to make informed decisions to promote timely completion of testing and First Articles.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using the Microsoft Office Suite and statistical analysis tools to capture data, perform analysis, and create reports.
  • Good communication (verbal/written) and interpersonal skills which include: skills in effectively working collaboratively with others and on cross-functional teams to address quality and design issues; ability to present technical data to suppliers on quality issues; and ability to effectively communicate with suppliers to implement process improvements and solve issues.
  • Ability to and skills in developing data needed to make informed decisions on parts problems and to monitor internal processes.
  • Skills in and ability to define problems, analyze data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret technical instructions in drawings, mathematical or diagram form.
  • Ability to train and gain the active support of production associates in matters related to part quality.
  • Ability to work effectively with mathematical concepts.
  • Experience dealing with mechanics and electronics in a manufacturing environment (requirement varies based on business department).
  • Fishing: Physical health and conditioning to perform boat loading/unloading and on-water testing in year round weather conditions.
  • Range $20.00 - $30.00 depends upon experience.
