Job description

Our client is seeking a CNC Machinist II – Vertical Lathe to be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC vertical turning lathes to produce high‑quality precision components. This role requires strong technical machining skills, blueprint interpretation, program editing, and in‑process inspection capabilities. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, safety‑focused, and able to work independently on a fast‑paced production floor.

This is a hands-on, safety‑sensitive role requiring consistent accuracy, strong math skills, and the ability to troubleshoot machining issues in real time.

Onsite | No Visa Sponsorship | No Relocation Assistance

Work Schedule: 4:00PM–12:30AM | Monday through Friday

Responsibilities:

CNC Setup & Operation

  • Upload, download, edit, and verify CNC programs as needed.
  • Set up and operate CNC vertical turning lathes (VTL) for production machining.
  • Load, verify, and adjust tools, fixtures, and materials according to work instructions.
  • Align vices, locate fixture centers, and perform basic fixturing or fabrication when required.

Blueprint & Inspection Work

  • Interpret part drawings, work orders, and flow sheets.
  • Perform first‑article and final inspections and submit results to Quality Assurance.
  • Conduct in‑process inspections to ensure parts meet dimensional and quality requirements.
  • Inspect blueprint dimensions using manual gauges (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.)

Production & Documentation

  • Log job data, time, and production information using ERP software.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, tool changes, and program edits.
  • Run production parts while monitoring machine performance and part quality.

Maintenance & Workplace Standards

  • Support additional duties as assigned.
  • Follow all safety, quality, and operational procedures.
  • Perform daily and monthly preventive maintenance on machines.
  • Maintain a clean, organized workspace following 5S principles.
  • Communicate with supervisors to ensure successful job completion.

Qualifications (Must-Haves)

  • CNC program editing.
  • Vertical lathe machining.
  • Blueprint interpretation.
  • Manual gauge inspection.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic proficiency with ERP systems.
  • Ability to edit and write CNC programs.
  • Strong basic math skills; trigonometry preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of CNC machining experience.
  • Proficiency in blueprint reading and manual inspection gauges.
  • Hands-on experience operating and setting up CNC vertical lathes (VTL)
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a safety‑sensitive environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience machining medium‑to‑large diameter components.
  • Familiarity with G‑code and common CNC controller platforms.
  • Experience in high‑precision or heavy‑machining environments.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • G-code proficiency.

Work Environment:
