PURPOSE STATEMENT
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' skills and competence in basic and complex mathematical principles, equations, formulas and calculations, as well as an understanding of the application of mathematics in the solution of practical problems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only, and is not a comprehensive listing of all the duties and responsibilities performed by this position.
  • Develops and administers mathematics curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for subject area, and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Teaches knowledge and skills in mathematics, including concepts such as real an imaginary numbers, formulas, calculations and geometry, and promotes creative thinking and analysis in all related subject areas.
  • Designs learning activities to demonstrate the application of mathematics to everyday existence and problem-solving.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Communicate electronically with students, parents and other staff members concerning student academic progress, attendance and behavior
  • Exercise open and respectful communication with families, co-workers, supervisors and other school staff
  • Perform other duties assigned.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective working environment.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Knowledge of:
  • Current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • A wide range of mathematic subject areas, including arithmetic equations, calculus, trigonometry, geometry, and other related areas.
  • Data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students

Skill in:
  • Computer and related software applications.
  • Using modern office equipment.

Ability to:
  • Work cooperatively with other personnel to improve instructional programs and the overall operation of the school.
  • Remain flexible, innovative and adaptive to change.
  • Handle multiple roles and adjunct duties to make the school work for the students.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Experience and passion for math/science integration, passion for excellence and meaningful school reform. Ability to demonstrate effective teaching and computer skills. To be flexible, resourceful, innovative, and able to manage the design and execution of learning experiences, both formal and informal, that are very responsive to the needs of students and the context in which learning is taking place. Must be highly qualified to teach Mathematics. Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment. Successful teaching experience desirable. No criminal convictions involving moral turpitude.
CERTIFICATION
Possession of a Secondary Math teaching license.
