Job description

About Legal Prep

Legal Prep Charter Academy is a free, open-enrollment public charter school with a unique law-themed, college-preparatory model designed to prepare students from traditionally underserved communities for success in college, careers, and civic leadership. Founded in Chicago in 2012, Legal Prep integrates rigorous academics with real-world professional experiences, including law courses at every grade level and monthly skills-based programming with legal and business partners.

In Fall 2026, Legal Prep will open its first Indianapolis campus, launching with 6th and 9th grades and growing into a full 6–12 school. Our founding faculty will play a critical role in shaping the culture, systems, and academic excellence of the school from day one.

Position Overview

This role emphasizes building strong foundational skills, developing problem-solving and analytical thinking, and ensuring all students can access grade-level content.

The ideal candidate believes deeply in high expectations, restorative practices, and culturally responsive teaching. This teacher will deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction while helping build the academic identity of the school during its founding year.

Core Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, standards-aligned math instruction that builds conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and problem-solving skills
  • Use data from formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress, identify trends, and adjust instruction to ensure mastery
  • Differentiate instruction and provide targeted support to meet the needs of all learners, including students performing below grade level and those receiving SPED or EL services
  • Build and maintain a classroom culture of high expectations, strong routines, and consistent student engagement that aligns to schoolwide expectations
  • Collaborate with colleagues in planning, data analysis, and instructional improvement through PLCs and coaching cycles
  • Serve as an advisor to a group of students, supporting their academic progress, goal setting, and overall well-being
  • Provide holistic student support by building strong relationships, monitoring academic and behavioral progress, and partnering with families as needed
  • Support student recruitment and founding-year initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Valid Indiana teaching license in Mathematics (or ability to obtain)
  • Strong content knowledge in high school math (Algebra I or beyond)
  • Experience teaching or working with high school students preferred
  • Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
  • Commitment to serving students from historically underserved communities.
  • Belief in structured, high-expectations, college-preparatory environments.
  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus.

Why Join Legal Prep Indianapolis?
  • Be part of a founding faculty team shaping a new 6–12 charter school.
  • Work in a mission-driven, college-preparatory environment.
  • Collaborate with a supportive and ambitious leadership team.
  • Help build a culture that blends rigor, relationships, and real-world learning.
  • Opportunity for leadership growth as the school expands.
