Assistant Principal (K-8 Instructional Leadership)
Location: Tucson, Arizona (Campus-Based; On-Site)
Compensation Range: $67,000 - $80,000 annually (DOE), plus bonus opportunities
Position Type: Full-Time

Position Overview
Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K-8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities.
AMS is seeking a passionate and instructional-focused Assistant Principal to support leadership across our Tucson campuses. This evergreen requisition will be used to identify and build a pipeline of strong instructional leaders for current and future openings.
The Assistant Principal plays a critical role in driving student achievement through instructional coaching, teacher development, and data-driven decision-making. This role partners closely with the Principal and campus leadership team to ensure strong instructional systems, high expectations, and a structured, achievement-oriented school culture.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with a strong background in teaching and teacher leadership, committed to improving outcomes for students in Title I communities.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership
  • Support the implementation of rigorous, standards-aligned instruction across K-8 classrooms
  • Conduct regular classroom observations and provide actionable feedback to teachers
  • Support instructional consistency in core subjects including ELA and Mathematics
  • Promote strong instructional practices that drive student achievement

Teacher Development & Coaching
  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentorship, and support to teachers
  • Facilitate professional development aligned with school academic priorities
  • Support teacher evaluation processes and performance management
  • Build teacher capacity through modeling, feedback, and collaboration

Data-Driven Academic Improvement
  • Analyze student achievement data to identify trends and instructional priorities
  • Lead or support data meetings and action planning processes
  • Monitor progress toward academic goals and support targeted interventions

School Culture & Student Support
  • Maintain a structured, positive, and high-expectations school environment
  • Support systems that reinforce student accountability and engagement
  • Partner with staff to ensure students receive strong academic and behavioral support

Collaboration & Operations
  • Partner with the Principal and leadership team to implement school-wide initiatives
  • Support campus operations including testing coordination, scheduling, and compliance
  • Participate in leadership meetings and network-wide professional development

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful K-8 teaching experience in core academic subjects
  • Experience working in Title I or high-need school environments
  • Demonstrated teacher leadership experience (e.g., grade-level lead, department chair, mentor teacher, or similar role)
  • Experience supporting instructional coaching, teacher development, or classroom supervision
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to analyze student achievement data and support data-driven instruction
  • Commitment to serving students in historically underserved communities

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Education or Educational Leadership
  • Arizona Principal Certification or ability to obtain
  • Experience supporting instruction across multiple grade levels (K-8)
  • Experience working in charter schools or high-performing school networks
  • Bilingual (Spanish-English) preferred
