What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Math Teacher, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Math Teacher, you need strong mathematical knowledge, teaching credentials or a degree in education, and experience in curriculum development. Familiarity with online teaching platforms (such as Zoom or Google Classroom), digital whiteboards, and assessment tools is essential. Excellent communication, patience, and adaptability help engage students and address diverse learning needs in a virtual setting. These skills ensure effective instruction, foster student understanding, and maintain a productive remote classroom environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote math teachers and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge for remote math teachers is engaging students and ensuring active participation in a virtual setting. It can be harder to gauge understanding and adjust instruction without face-to-face cues. To address this, teachers often use interactive tools such as virtual whiteboards, breakout rooms, and regular formative assessments. Building strong communication with students and parents, setting clear expectations, and providing timely feedback are also essential strategies for overcoming remote teaching barriers.

What is remote math teaching?

Remote math teaching involves instructing students in mathematics through online platforms rather than in a traditional classroom setting. Teachers use digital tools such as video conferencing, virtual whiteboards, and interactive assignments to deliver lessons and support student learning. This format allows both educators and learners to participate from different locations, offering flexibility and access to education regardless of geographic barriers. Remote math teachers may work for schools, tutoring companies, or as independent educators. Job description

Leona Connected is looking for a tech-savvy and engaging Math Teacher to join our tuition-free public charter school in a fully remote capacity. This position is designed for a professional who can effectively manage a digital classroom for both synchronous live learners via Google Meet and asynchronous self-paced students using our learning management system. The ideal candidate will excel at building meaningful, positive relationships with a diverse student population while ensuring that teaching and learning decisions are data-driven whenever possible.
In addition to daily instruction, teachers are expected to submit weekly lesson plans to the Instructional Coach and actively build rapport by contacting students and parents each day.
To support high-quality online instruction, we provide a premium suite of digital tools, backed by a dedicated Instructional Coach. This toolkit includes SchoolsPLP for curriculum, IXL for standards mastery and diagnostics, and Synergy for attendance and grading. To maintain an interactive and secure virtual environment, teachers utilize tools such as Pear Deck, Edpuzzle, Classroomscreen, and GoGuardian, along with gamification resources like Blooket, Kahoot, and PBIS Rewards to distribute "Byte Bucks."
Candidates must currently reside in Arizona, maintain a reliable high-quality home internet connection for seamless video streaming, and possess strong knowledge of Google Workspace, Google Meet, and Google Voice. While a valid Arizona Teaching Certificate with a Secondary Science endorsement is highly recommended, we also value talented educators who can balance a dynamic instructional presence with professional academic rigor.
We seek educators who combine strong content knowledge with a commitment to academic rigor, student engagement, and continuous growth.
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution
  • Arizona teaching certificate, endorsement, or highly qualified in the content area (or ability to obtain)
  • IVP Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Working knowledge of instructional technology and data-driven teaching practices

Preferred:
  • Relevant teaching experience or serving diverse populations
  • Demonstrated success in raising student achievement
  • Commitment to collaboration, family partnership, and ongoing professional development

At Leona Group Schools, teaching means building relationships, raising expectations, and opening doors for students who deserve opportunity and excellence.
If you are ready to teach with purpose, grow professionally, and be part of a supportive and mission-driven team, we encourage you to apply and find your place with us.
