Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery (RN - L&D)

Location: Newark, DE
Shift: 12-Hour Nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
36 Hours per Week
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Unit: Labor & Delivery (21–30 Beds)

Assignment Highlights
  • Labor & Delivery unit with patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, and 1:3, depending on patient acuity.
  • Cerner EMR (transitioning to Epic).
  • Hospital-provided Ceil Blue scrubs.
  • Every other weekend and holiday rotation.
  • No on-call requirement.
  • Float to Antenatal, High Risk OB, OB Triage, and Postpartum units as needed.
  • Voice Advantage interview followed by Nurse Manager review.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and the immediate postpartum period.
  • Monitor maternal and fetal status using continuous fetal heart monitoring and promptly recognize changes requiring intervention.
  • Assist with labor inductions, vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, and emergency obstetrical procedures.
  • Safely administer and titrate high-alert medications including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, and Insulin drips while monitoring patient response.
  • Manage epidural care and monitor mothers for complications during labor and delivery.
  • Care for patients experiencing high-risk pregnancies, fetal demise, intrauterine fetal death (IUFD), and other obstetrical emergencies.
  • Collaborate closely with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, surgical teams, and postpartum staff to deliver exceptional maternal and newborn care.
  • Educate patients and families on labor progression, pain management options, newborn care, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation using the Cerner EMR while adhering to hospital quality and patient safety standards.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Active Delaware RN License or Compact RN License.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience (no exceptions).
  • Current certifications with expiration dates available at submission.
  • Maximum 3 days of RTO submitted with the initial application.
  • Ability to float within Women's Services based on patient acuity.
