Job description

Description
Faculty Position in Materials Science and Engineering, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), College of Engineering, University of Michigan, invites outstanding applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant or associate professor levels (full professor candidates may be considered if the application is exceptional). Areas of expertise include processing and design of novel materials.
We seek individuals who have demonstrated strong interest and capability in both science and engineering and who are capable of contributing to and leading multi-disciplinary teams. The applicant must hold a Ph.D. degree in MSE or a related field and should be qualified and passionate about teaching undergraduate and graduate courses within the field. We seek candidates who will provide inspiration and leadership in research, and contribute to the academic mission of the institution. The College of Engineering is especially interested in candidates who can contribute, through research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
The University of Michigan is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer with an active dual-career assistance program.
Application Instructions
Applying:
To be considered, candidates should provide a current C.V., a list of references, a summary of career teaching plans; a summary of their research vision, and (v) course (teaching) evaluations (for candidates with prior teaching experience) in this site (see below).
We are extending our search for another year. Previous applicants are still being considered and can be updated if desired. We will begin a new cycle of reviews for new applications on November 15th, 2018. Applications received after that date will be considered until the position is filled.

2300 Hayward Street
Ann Arbor, MI 48109-2136
Our selection process:
The selection process will begin on Nov. 15th. We are happy to accept applications after this date and will consider them as best we can. The dates listed in this description are estimates and are provided for transparency.
We hope to generate a "long list" of candidates by the beginning of January that we will look at very carefully. At this point we will contact your list of references and ask for letters of recommendation. We do this because we do not want to ask for a letter unless we are actually considering the applicant. The letters of recommendation will help us develop a short list of candidates who will be invited to participate in a short 15-20 minute Skype interview in January and early February. We hope to invite up to 3 and 4 of these candidates to visit us for an onsite interview in late February and early March. This process may extend into early April.
You will be able to edit your application at any time in the process. However, only updates entered on or before November 15th are guaranteed to be considered.
We will keep the process open until we have filled our position. That means that we will not be rejecting anyone until as long as a year from now. It is very possible that we may reexamine our pool at any time. We wish you success in your application.
