As a materials and corrosion engineer, your responsibilities include helping clients optimize resources while minimizing costs and risks. You inspect oil and gas equipment and pipelines, and give businesses recommendations for corrosion control and material selection regarding tool maintenance, repair, and projects. You develop work processes and tools to effectively monitor, manage, and improve the corrosion control program. Other duties include providing technical support for both planned and unplanned maintenance, coordinating data gathering and using it to plan inspections, and giving input for other programs as required. Some employers also require you to assist in coaching new staff members.
