About Comlux America
Comlux America is a world-class VIP aircraft completion and refurbishment center located in Indianapolis, Indiana. The company designs, engineers, and installs custom luxury interiors and advanced aircraft systems for airliner-derivative business jets. Comlux also offers scheduled and unscheduled maintenance services. Specializing in highly customized aircraft, Comlux transforms aircraft into personalized flying environments that reflect exceptional craftsmanship, precision engineering, and uncompromising safety.
Role Description
The Stress Engineer is responsible for performing structural analysis, substantiation, and certification support activities for aircraft interior completion, modification, and maintenance projects. This role develops engineering analyses and reports that demonstrate compliance with applicable regulatory requirements while supporting the design, certification, and installation of aircraft interior systems, furnishings, structural modifications, and associated equipment. Working closely with Design Engineering, Certification, Program Management, Manufacturing, and external engineering partners, the Stress Engineer ensures aircraft modifications meet structural integrity requirements and certification standards for transport category and business aircraft. This position plays a critical role in supporting Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) programs, maintenance modifications, and ongoing engineering initiatives.
Essential Job Functions
• Perform structural analysis and substantiation activities in support of aircraft interior completion and modification programs.
• Generate structural substantiation reports, compliance documentation, and engineering analyses for interior modification STC projects involving transport category aircraft.
• Develop static strength, fatigue, damage tolerance, and load path analyses utilizing classical hand calculation methods and finite element analysis techniques.
• Evaluate aircraft structures, monuments, furnishings, equipment installations, and modification designs to ensure compliance with regulatory and customer requirements.
• Support certification efforts through preparation of engineering reports, compliance documentation, and technical data packages.
• Coordinate and review structural analyses, reports, and test plans prepared by outside service vendors and engineering consultants.
• Work closely with Design Engineering teams to ensure proposed designs are structurally sound, manufacturable, and certifiable.
• Support maintenance and modification programs involving executive aircraft operating under 14 CFR Part 23 and Part 25 regulations.
• Participate in design reviews and provide technical guidance regarding structural integrity, load paths, attachment methods, and certification requirements.
• Assist in the development of structural test plans and support certification testing activities as required.
• Interface with Certification Engineers, DERs, ODA representatives, regulatory authorities, and external engineering organizations to support certification objectives.
• Support production and manufacturing teams by evaluating engineering issues, developing structural dispositions, and resolving installation-related concerns.
• Review engineering drawings, specifications, and installation designs to identify potential structural concerns and recommend corrective actions.
• Maintain project schedules and deliverables while supporting multiple aircraft programs simultaneously.
• Contribute to the development and improvement of engineering procedures, analysis methods, and best practices.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience
• Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required.
• Minimum of 2-5 years of structural analysis experience within the aerospace, aviation, or aircraft modification industry.
• Experience supporting aircraft certification activities involving FAA regulations, STCs, or aircraft modifications preferred.
• Experience performing structural substantiation and engineering analysis for aircraft structures, interiors, or systems installations preferred.
• Familiarity with transport category aircraft certification requirements under 14 CFR Part 25 preferred.
• Valid passport with the ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
Required Skills and Abilities
• Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and aircraft certification requirements.
• Understanding of aircraft structures, load paths, attachment methods, and structural integrity principles.
• Proficiency with classical hand calculation methods used for structural analysis and substantiation.
• Working knowledge of finite element modeling and analysis techniques.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, installation designs, and aircraft modification packages.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Experience using engineering analysis software such as MathCAD, FEMAP, NASTRAN, or equivalent tools.
• Basic proficiency with CAD software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Commitment to safety, quality, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.
